I've had a look at the number of points the 6th placed team got in each of the seasons since the second tier was increased to 24 clubs.
The figures in brackets are the number of points required to finish 6th, if lower than was actually achieved.

2009 - 74
2008 - 70
2007 - 75
2006 - 75 (68)
2005 - 73 (71)
2004 - 73 (72)
2003 - 74 (71)
2002 - 75
2001 - 74 (73)
2000 - 76 (75)
1999 - 76 (74)
1998 - 74
1997 - 71 (69)
1996 - 71 (70)
1995 - 72 (71)
1994 - 71 (69)
1993 - 76 (71)
1992 - 74 (72)
1991 - 70
1990 - 74 (73)
1989 - 76 (75)
1988 - 75 (70)

Why haven't we got a spreadsheet from Joe on this issue ?

It's a disgrace :018:

I would've thought that 72 should be enough this year as I can't see anyone from 7th or lower taking more than 20 points from their final 9 games - which means that we just need 12 points from our last 10 games...

Who was the muppet a few weeks ago proclaiming themselves bored titless by this season? I would like to hear their thoughts again....

Oh yeah, Tits!

And if we get to the Final, I'm flying over for it. That's if we don't clinch the second spot...the WBA away game looks a juicy six-pointer.

Reading have taken 24 points from their last 9 games - and if they keep that kind of form up they'll finish on something like 75 points. Unlikely they'll continue to pick points up at that rate, but it shows what teams can do. Someone like Sheff Utd could go on a similar run,

Solano was good, although he wasn't massively tested in defence. looks very composed on the ball and didn't seem to tire

His goal-line clearance from (I think) Alan Lee's header first half saved a certain goal. Aside from that, he was constantly passing well, talking to the other City players and encouraging. A very astute performance I thought.

On another note, felt a bit randypants at the match, not felt that before. No idea why.

Of course that's possible, I just don't think it's probable - the teams below Sheff Utd would need more than 20 points from their last 9 games, thats a big ask so I'll stick with my prediction of 72 points being enough this year.

Of course this doesn't account for an inevitable blow-up by Cardiff which you could fairly reasonably factor in...

Only just got back from this one, (I did stop over in Gravesend tho) - Excellent result, good possession and we did really well to capitalise on them going a man down. Bit of a shame we couldnt kill the game off when we had the chancel, but it did lead to a tense last ten mins. Couldn't believe they started the second half with no striker - Ambrose even went over to the bench to ask why Hart had decided to do this. Apparently the attendance was 12k+ - it was more like 8-9k. According to Palace radio (which they continue to fund despite being in admin) Palace actually count all the season tkts sold in their total gate - even if the tkts are not used!!

We are now in the play offs as far as I am concerned!

They couldn't **** this up could they?

Just did the BBC predictor thingy for the remaining fixtures - tried not to think too much, just went with instincts.

We finished 7th behind both Reading and Middlesbro!

Tis far from over.

I think you & I are very alike in our optimism, or lack of. Nigel Pearson is starting to make me change however. I am off to do that predictor now, but I cannot see Pearson's LCFC slipping out of the play off places this season, at least.

This will be my vehicle of choice on the way to Wembley.

However I don't have £5.5k....it holds 8 passenger seats. So add one on the driver and four sitting on the floor. We have 12 people. I make that £460 each to join the experience of a lifetime. Then we have petrol and insurance....

Homer has his eyes on cars, as this article testifies..http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/new...899/Man-admits-having-sex-with-1000-cars.html

From one of the LCFC fans twitter groups last night before the game -

@Alexikokopops

Oh Lord, Jamie has a flare. Tonight is going to be obscene
The stewards just watched and seemed to find it funny.

Good performance, Weale was quality.

Bring on the main rivals, Covscum!
