What exactly is the Mandaric manager profile?
In his time at Leicester and Portsmouth he's appointed young up and coming managers, older experienced managers, managers with top division experience, managers with no experience, foreign managers etc, and only one has worked out. And he wasn't even appointed with the idea of making him manager.
My reading of the man is that he really likes the flash smooth talker (Redknapp in his earlier days, Allen and Holloway) who promise attractive, attacking football, but that he can be persuaded by the exact opposite the dour Warnock, Megson types as long as they have a string of successes.
Grayson is nearer to the latter but, I am not convinced that he has the CV to convince Milan.
