I must have missed something, why do people put **** in to s****horpes name. What have they done to deserve this? :102:

I've said it several times - and I'm actually starting to believe that it's going to happen.

I don't know whether I overdosed last season, my first ever ever-present - but I do know that I found it an increasing chore in getting to matches as the year dragged on. Apart from the thrill of the achievement of getting to every game, I didn't really get much enjoyment from the season. I am becoming increasingly irritated my the way that money is used in the game - and on a personal level, I've got to reconcile the effect of a 13% rise in season-ticket prices and a 16+% rise in MML train fares on my now-fixed income which has only risen by 3%. I wonder whether I really want to spend an increasing proportion of what money I have in subsidising a small group of people who are unreasonably and unjustifiably rich.

I'm not going to stop following and supporting City but I do want to get out of a habit which takes up so much of my resources, not only in financial terms. To put it in a nutshell, I have used more energy in getting to matches than some of the players have expended during matches.

I may try a whole season with no games at all - to see if that rekindles the desire. I may just pick and choose a few games. I may take the opportunity to go to Accrington Stanley and the two new League entrants from the Conference, in order to renew my membership of the 92Club. There are also a few teams with new grounds that I have never been to.

Local people have suggested that I should choose a more local team - Deal Town? Dover Athletic? Gillingham? Charlton Athletic (who provide a bus which calls just 100 yards from my house - £5 return to the Valley). They seem to think that it would be an easy thing to change my allegiance. I am sure i won't be doing that. What I wouldn't mind doing is getting a season ticket for my *nearest* League club - Calais in the French 4th division - now that would be interesting.

On the other hand, I might just put the money that I would have spent in a pot - and leave it there to be counted at the end of the year - I'm sure there would be over £3,000 in it by then.

I did at first feel excited by the appearance of Milan Mandaric. But the sale of the club dragged on and on - and I've not been particularly excited by any of the steps that he has taken since gaining control.

Perhaps I've just been doing it too long. But if I'm going to put so much into something, I've got to be getting some kind of personal reward from it. By that I don't mean Premiership football - and I am not sure what I do mean. But whatever it is, I've not been getting it. Hence my decision to take a break.

Sorry this has been long - but you didn't have to read it!

Sleeping on the sofa, waking up at kick-off to watch a live game of ours and using the remote to turn on the telly without getting up is using more energy than 90% of the team last year...

For the same reason that you just did.

Sorry this has been long - but you didn't have to read it!

I read it and found it very interesting.I wonder if any others have questioned themselves as to why they go week in week out or just every home game.Do people just go put of habit ?:102: Even If I lived close enough I doubt I would go that much maybe just once a month, maybe that makes me a part time Supporter I don't know but I just have much more important things in my life,I'd want to feel that going down the Walkers etc is something i look forward to and not that is a chore

Fair point HF.....

I love going to the Walkers when I can, however I always enjoy the atmosphere of away matches more...So there.

After the Wolves match (1-4) I knew that I was very glad it was the end of the season. No more.... Please god, no more of the last two years.

I'd guess it has become a chore for most over the last few years it certainly has for me. I used to wake up on a Saturday relishing getting down to the pub then the ground. Now I wake up not really bothered if I am going or not. I am hoping this will change this season.

I think most people do,I went the Leeds game at home season just gone and after half hour I was bored and looking forward more to going home.Away games always seem more of an 'Event'...not that I get too many of them either:icon_roll

Its hard to explain other than its an addiction. I imagine some smoker know its killing them and wish to stop but just dont/cant. Another season like the last few though and it would need a miracle to get me to renew my season ticket.

I had seven years when I hardly went to any games due to working Saturdays and the wife working evenings during the week. You soon get out of the habit and this period of time also coincided with the advent of football on Sky, which I did not have, and I hardly followed football at all, finding other things to occupy my time. For some reason I went to Bolton away to see the Reebok and that was it, started going again, my daughter then asked to go with me and it was all downhill from there.

I understand what Boc is saying though, the last couple of seasons have been hard travelling to the home games for us as well, and you sometimes wonder if it is worth it. However, games like Preston away make you realise why you go. Meeting Boc and all the others there, plus the atmosphere and the win help rekindle the flame and make you go again.

I've only just got to know Boc recently, but I will miss him if he doesn't go as often in the future because its people like him and the other TB'ers who I've met who make it a good day out.

I do know,I did used to go every home match and a lot of away for about 5 seasons and some of that was in the Pleat era:icon_conf

When you've spoken to me you said you would still go to away games - at the minimum those where you've never seen us play before. Have you changed your mind about this, or have you seen us play a friendly at Glanford Park so are not bothered about seeing us play a real match there?
