Judging by some previous posts on here, today was the first time DJ has really PLAYED for Leicester!

Does anyone know the last time (before today), that no one made their Leicester debut in the first match of the season?

We've certainly had at least one debutant in the first match every year since 1994. I haven't looked any further back than that.

Well famously, the first game of the 76-77 season saw the same City team as played the last game of the previous season. Any advance on 1976?

Cannot remember him at all.....

Exactly what I thought, otherw*s* it's the team I grew up with.

same here, I bet Boc has got mixed up with Willie Carlin, but then I would have thought that season was a bit after his time.

Willie Gibson

That was my first thought as well - and the reason I included his first name when I had not used any of the others.

Little ginger bloke from the central belt of Scotland. He had debuted in the first game of the previous season after impressing Jock Wallace on pre-season tour and played 20 games before Paul Friar took the 3 shirt. Then played the first eight games of the season in question before Friar came in again. These 28 games comprised his entire first-class career; he then spent five years at Nuneaton Borough and another ten at Weymouth, including a benefit season.

How did we do that season?

Finished 11th.

Wallington
Whitworth
Rofe
Kember
Blockley
Woollett
Weller
Alderson
Worthington
Lee
Garland

.... though it's hard to imagine a team with that amount of talent being the cause of grumbling amongst the faithful with a top half finish, it's generally reckoned to be the beginning of the end for Jimmy Bloomfield's reign as manager .... as it was clear to the fans that the team wasn't getting any better, and during the season there were regular rumours about our "stars" going stateside to the NASL following Pele and George Best (in the end I think Birch and Steve Earle were the first to go, and Alan Woollett turned it down because of his pet dog).

To my eternal shame I joined in the "Bloomfield out" chants towards the end of that season - I've never done that since, even with Peter Taylor. :icon_redf

I think you will find Jeff Blockley was signed by the twat McClintock.... Boc will verify this.

The reason Moreno didn't start against Palace was because he is still waiting for his International Clearance!
