Is anyone else scouring the news and gossip columns in the hope of reading about recruiting some more defenders? Unless I have missed something City have only six specialist defenders now. I doubt if many managers think that is enough cover to mount a promotion challenge.

I can understand when gossip columns fail to speculate on signings, the club has been pretty good at keeping most of the signings out of the public eye until completed. But where are the local journalists asking Nigel if he thinks six defenders is enough? or if he thinks other players in the squad can offer enough cover? or if he tried to sign defenders in August? or if he's hoping to bring in some loan players?

Lacking in defensive cover and definitive coverage. Unless, as I have said, I missed something.

The following players can play in the following positions:

CB: Moore, Morgan, Whitbread, St Ledger, De Laet

RB: Moore, De Laet, St Ledger

LB: Konchesky, De Laet

Nigel always keeps his cards close to his chest, even if Stringer or The LM asked him about signings, they'd get nothing out of him. The only place we look a bit thin on the ground is LB, we could maybe do with a loanee, but I'd hardly say we're short on defensive options.

What if the mass debate gets out of control? Can someone lend a hand?

Have people given up on Matty James already? They may be right but it seems to me to be a bit premature.

Matty James isn't a defender.

It is said though that he can also play as a defender. It may be though that people are so disappointed in his performance in his preferred role that they have no desire to see him filling in elsewhere on the park.

For what it is worth Wikipedia claims he can play in defence and so I presume he played some games there for Man U reserves.

Those who go to away games have seen James play more than I have. However, I would guess that most people have seen him in three games - a pre-season friendly, a game against Peterborough when he was carrying an illness and the game against Burton where most of the team were dreadful.

Football is so passionate and so immediate that there is a temptation for people to make up their mind about players very quickly. It might however be more supportive for supporters to give the lad time to show what he can do.

It's not the Leicester-way though, is it? And heaven forfend that anybody should ever suggest that it is a major part of the problem at the club.

I know that Pearson plays his cards close to his chest with respect to transfers, but we've not even had pagefilling line "Nigel Pearson was today playing his cards close to his chest about whether or not he's pursuing more defenders in the transfer window. The summer has seen lots go and only a few come etc etc" and any response to the question "are you happy with only having six recognised defenders in the squad?" is going to give you some sort of story. And the benchmark for what constitutes a story is very, very low for these people.
I expect NP is trying to bring in some loanee defenders - he has done in previous seasons - but I despair of the lack of coverage/comment about this likelihood in the local media. It's like these people haven't even noticed that most games this season City haven't had an experienced defender on the bench. I know Danns, James, Schlupp etc could fill in, but why is no-one asking NP if this is his long term plan?

I would love to join other members from this forum in enjoying a mass debate, although I must warn you I usually cry afterwards.

You are absolutely right sir - people are much too quick to make judgements on players and Leicester fans are amongst the worst. They have liitle sense and no patience......but he is shite isn't he? .

End of last season a lot of people were slating Danny Drinkwater.
This season, it's hard to see a City 1st 11 without him.
