Does Leicester City have the new Bruce Lee?

I thought it was time to do the kind of surreal post that usually leads Bocc to accuse me of senility and Cate to demand to know "what I am on". The answer is nothing stronger than Darjeeling.

In the 1970s I went to see a Bruce Lee movie called The Big Boss. In it Bruce Lee had made a promise to his mother that he would never fight again. For the first half of the movie Bruce Lee's skills were desperately needed but he wandered round aimlessly not fighting. This was unfortunate because cinemagoers had paid good money to see him fight. However, in the second half of the movie he ignored his promise and "kicked ass" - I would add "not before time.".

There is a clear parallel with Jermaine Beckford. Whether he had promised his mother not to score goals we can only specualate Certainly he spent the first half of the season his skills were desperately needed but he wandered round aimlesly not scoring. As with Bruce Lee this was unfortunate since people had paid good money to see him score. If Beckford had made such a promise (and we will never know) he has ignored it in recent games and on Wednesday he brilliantly "kicked ass." - again not before time.

Has Beckford improved or is he just getting better service now?

I have always believed Beckford would come good and score goals, but I have to say that his overall general play hasnt improved (first touch is still shocking), and he is still lazy (although he has started chasing balls down). The only difference is that now he is being given the chances to score.

The first half of the season he was stuck out on the wing or had his back to goal with balls being lumped 4ft over his head. When he did get the ball it was normally 40 yards out and he would have to try and beat two players before being able to get a shot in, which normally resulted in him losing the ball and getting booed by the crowd.

In the last 4 games he has had the service he has needed and as he has shown once given the chance he will score. So far all his goals have been scored inside the box.

Phew!! I thought you were talking about me for a moment then. It just doesn't seem that it's the kind of thing that I would be likely to do: people in glasshouses etc.

Your comparisons get more and more bizarre, DG. Keep 'em coming though. I enjoy them.

Next up, I'm expecting a 12 paragraph mini-essay on why Neil Danns' endless pressing is reminiscent of the march on Versailles.

No, he cuts off access to grassland better than the Enclosure Acts from 1845 to 1882.

Have I? :icon_conf

No. I am guilty of an amateur mistake in not checking my sources. It was LeeSoh. Apologies to both.

In fact I find Neil Dann's play reminiscent of the White Rabbit in Alice In Wonderland (one line).

Remember what the doormouse said: "feed your head, feed your head!"

Did I ever call you senile? Or am I due an apology too?

I'm not sure if that was deliberate or not, but that's some kind of beautiful display of the cryptic punch-line.
