Well, in fairness to him:
He got Oldham going extremely well in League One. Then when he took over at Palace he took them from about 18th at Christmas (with Andy Johnson in the side) to promotion. He then almost kept them up too.
I'm not a great fan of him at all..... But just trying to be impartial and fair. He has done some superb work in the past..
Agree apart from this bit.I think one of the basic misunderstandings is that managers will want to come to Leicester because of the opportunity to work with MM and spend his money. The problem with that is that MM doesn't really throw around lots of money on transfers and there are some managers who would not want to work with a 'controlling' owner. This is not to say MM's takeover was not for the good - it was because the club was just adrift.
Agree apart from this bit.
I think, on balance, a fairly big club punching under their weight with a new owner renowned as a "football man" (whatever that means) who will spend more than the average in this league would be a pretty appealing proposition to a lot of pretty decent managers.
Oh, and I thought I'd mention Newell again seeing as his name has dropped off the radar on here. Not my first choice but I still think he could do a job.
The more names in the hat the better - then we can keep this crap going at full pace for the next few weeks :icon_roll
Agree Redditch...
Yes, fair points Redditch.
Mind you, I thought Levein was a good appointment.
As did I - and I believe some of his work was good - our academy are thriving...this is very much something he worked hard to get going to it's full potential.
COVENTRY CITY have shrugged off renewed rumours linking manager Iain Dowie with Leicester City.
But they have refused to comment on suggestions that the Sky Blues boss is still to sign the three and a half year contract he agreed when he replaced Micky Adams in February.
Dowie - currently pre-occupied by his £1million legal battle with Crystal Palace supremo Simon Jordan - seemed to leave no doubt about his commitment to the Ricoh Arena when he spoke at the club's annual dinner last Wednesday.
But the stubborn speculation that Milan Mandaric sees him as the No.1 choice to take over at the Walkers Stadium is an unwelcome development for Coventry as they continue to negotiate with the American consortium on a takeover.
"There will always be speculation and it is nice to have interest in your manager, but there is no truth in the rumour," insisted managing director Paul Fletcher,
Asked about Dowie's contract situation, however, Fletcher said: "That's a matter for the chairman.
But Geoffrey Robinson would only say: "I have no comment to make other than to say that Iain Dowie has a fully agreed deal and is our manager."
Robinson added, however, that he hopes the proposed takeover by Manhattan Sports Capital Partners will be completed as soon as possible.
"The board are extremely positive and anxious that we make swift progress," he said.
Its not true .... stop worrying
