City Complete Drinkwater Capture
Posted on: Fri 20 Jan 2012
Leicester City are delighted to confirm the arrival of midfielder Danny Drinkwater, who has joined the Club from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee, subject to Football League approval.
The 21-year-old playmaker becomes the first signing of Nigel Pearson's second spell in charge of the Foxes, agreeing terms on a contract until June 2015.
City manager Nigel Pearson said: "Danny is a player we have monitored for a long time, so we are delighted to bring him to King Power Stadium.
"He is a player who will bring energy and creativity to the team. We have been looking to strengthen the squad since joining and this signing begins that process.
"Danny is a young and hungry player and his ambitions match those of the Club. He fits the criteria and standards that we set here and we look forward to Danny joining up with his new colleagues and having a positive impact on the team."
Born in Manchester and a graduate of the United academy, Danny has already acquired considerable Championship experience during loan spells with Cardiff City, Watford and, most recently, Barnsley. He also made 37 appearances in League 1 while on loan with Huddersfield Town during the 2009/10 season.
This season in particular has seen Drinkwater begin to show his undoubted potential, making 18 appearances for Barnsley including an outstanding display in the Tykes' 2-1 win at King Power Stadium last Saturday, which included assists for both goals.
Danny will join up with the City squad for training on Saturday ahead of Monday night's trip to npower Championship leaders Southampton.
