what would he be worth now, todays game be perfect for him..

hes a sexy bastard int he. He'd have given becks a run for his money :icon_razz

We should be playing at the "Worthington" not the Walkers...

Never saw him play for Leicester, but I was privaleged(sp) to see him when he turned out in a few games for Preston, when he was 40 ish, the guy was a genius even then, class above, I will never forget the goal he scored for Bolton, I think it was against either Ipswich or Everton where he took the ball flicked it over, swiveled and volleyed home from the edge of the area, Birch should have this guy walking around New Filbo at half time, that would get the place rocking, IMO Leicester's equivalent of Bestie.

being a young one i never got to see this magician actually play for the city, however i did see him play in a testimonial at filbo one year, cant remember whos testimonial it was though. seemed to be a real legend amongst the older guys that night though. shame we dont have someone like this at the moment.

how about wortho for manager :)

If that had been Best scoring it or Pele or someone similar we would never have heard the last of it. ;)

Agree Stevo, although I was too young at the time to actually remember the goal, I have seen 100's of times since and it was an absolutely fantastic piece of skill, criminal that Frank only won a handful of caps for England, one of the most gifted players this country has ever produced IMO. When he was at Preston, in the very twilight of his career, he was still a huge draw and then, you could see the ability and vision, a remarkable talent.

A bit like Jimmy Greaves, people are afraid of talent (British talent that is :icon_conf ) in this country.

Too true, Glenn Hoddle was the same, a very gifted midfielder and yet never really was used to his true potential for England, the problem being that the English game is / was too rigid to allow a player with natural ability replace a player who was more workmanlike, can you imagine Argentina not selecting Maradona or Brazil not selecting Pele, but we have done it time after time, it is only now that we have embraced a player in that mould, in Rooney, and started to build a team around him, although if it wasnt for the fact he plays up front and therefore still fits in with the trusted 4 - 4 - 2, then I doubt he would be accomadated so easily into the starting XI, IMO if Rooney was say a central midfielder with those abilities I honestly do not believe he would have started as many games as he has managed so far.

He turned out for Paul Ramsey's testimonals against Spurs. I think it ended 2-2 even Gazza played a half for Spurs and Sir Gary played one half for each side!!

I don't know what it says about English football in the 70's but we had some of our most naturalyl gifted footballers ever like Wortho, Weller, Rodney Marsh, Alan Hudson, Stan Bowles, Charlie George etc and yet we never even quaified for two World Cups...

....I've got the answer - we never picked them for England...:icon_redf

"Franky Wortho, Franky Wortho, Allo, Allo Franky Wortho."

Not an imaginative song for him from Pen3, was it?

The thing about Frank is that he was an entertainer. There's lots of skill in the premiership and other levels, but the entertainment has gone. Does anyone know what I mean?

Met Frank in Baileys night club once. Bought him a beer and chatted to him for 10 minutes. My god, the women swarmed round him like flies around dung. Nowadays they'd say he tried to rape them.

Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

You're right to blush! I think you'll find that out of that list, only one of them did not play for England. Anybody know which?

I'm more than aware that they all played for England even Charlie George - one cap vs Wales I think...

I should have been more accurate in my statement - they didn't play for England very much given their talent.........

How did you know that it was Charlie George that I thought was capless? Get out of my mind!!!

Just had time to check - in fact, his single game was against Ireland (of the Republic variety).
