Over the years the New Walk Museum has come in for criticism especially over the way it has displayed paintings and its underwhelming First World War exhibition That criticism was fully justified although in fairness they have sorted out the paintings. So it is important to say that their tribute to Leicester City's success has been (IMO) very well done. There has been a lot of work involved and it was nice to see staff wearing Leicester City shirts. Even the Rutland Dinosaur wears a Leicester scarf; surely the oldest Leicester supporter.

It was good to see such a lot of children at the exhibition. I know people who complain about museums dumbing down but actually getting children to come into the museum should be a high priority. An exhibition about Leicester City is not dumbing down; this is an important part of Leicester as a community and has become an important selling point for the city.

So congratulations to the New Walk Museum staff and my message is that if you live in Leicester and have not been it is worth going to - and of course to see the other exhibitions as well.

Fantastic effort from the museum.

The Egypt exhibit remains terrifying to me.

I saw the Egyptian exhibition when we were taken there when in Junior school in the 1960's - agree it was creepy then .Nearly two decades later, I worked at the New Walk museum a few years after graduating and the Egyptian section was still pretty eerie, even as an adult (especialy after closing time) . I also worked on cleaning up some of the boring bits of the Cetiosaurus dinosaur from Rutland. Glad it's wearing a city scarf - even if it is jumping on the Leicester City bandwagon after 168 million years.

The Museums Association agreed a definition in 1998.

It says: "Museums enable people to explore collections for inspiration, learning and enjoyment"

All three in abundance at this exhibition, well worth a visit

Thanks DG.

As a distant supporter I was unaware of the exhibition but next time I get to a home game I will definitely pay this a visit.

My kids really enjoy the museum, so I might take them there again with that on. Cheers DG :023:
