It was my limited experience that the BBC West Midlands signal was stronger. Pre cable or Sky.
Depends which way your aerial is pointing.
It used to be that the Sutton Coldfield transmitter was the one that covered Leics, so everyone had their aerial pointing that way.
When the Waltham transmitter was erected to cover the East Midlands people with new aerials started using it instead, but even decades later people still have old aerials or had new ones installed pointing the wrong way. It didn't really matter until they split the Midlands news into East/West in the 80s/90s.
