Can I ask you a favour please. How much do you estimate the following to cost?

1. Leaving an standard iron on all day (8 hours)
2. Leaving an electric oven on at 200 degrees all night (12 hours)
3. Leaving an electric shower on (pull switch) all day (8 hours)
4. Leaving a PC and flatscreen monitor on permanently for a day (24 hours)

I'm not sure on exact wattage, etc but just give me a (hate saying this phrase) ball park figure in £'s for each of these events.

Thanks.

an Iron at 2000W for 8 hours = 16 KWHrs

costs vary, but let's say EDF 1st tier is 15.7395 p/KWhr

16p/KWhr*16kWhr= 256p = £2.56

sure you can figure the rest out, just make sure you get the units right

1. Leaving an standard iron on all day (8 hours) 50p
2. Leaving an electric oven on at 200 degrees all night (12 hours) £1.50
3. Leaving an electric shower on (pull switch) all day (8 hours) £1
4. Leaving a PC and flatscreen monitor on permanently for a day (24 hours) £1

All of the above are 'wild' guesses.

On the other hand, I have a pay meter, and stick £10 a week in it. It very rarely runs out, and IMO we have loads on. The missus is there all day, as she's still on maternity leave.

An Oven at 5000w for 12 hours = 60 KWHrs

costs vary, but let's say EDF 1st tier is 15.7395 p/KWhr

16p/KWhr*60kWhr= 960p = £9.60

Electric Shower - a typical electric water heater has a 4500 watt heating element

An Shower at 4500w for 8 hours = 36 KWHrs

costs vary, but let's say EDF 1st tier is 15.7395 p/KWhr

16p/KWhr*36kWhr= 576p = £5.76

PC 160 Watts

An PC at 160w for 24 hours = 3.8 KWHrs

costs vary, but let's say EDF 1st tier is 15.7395 p/KWhr

16p/KWhr*3.8kWhr= 61p = £0.61

cheers Darth et al.

Well - if people are doing other peoples homework:

I need a functioning Lecturer/student test program, written in Java, fully documented from project inception to completion and I need it by next week. The lecturer needs to set quizes for students with four options. The data produced should be encrypted and stored.

This forum is great.

I'd say it'll cost you at least £175,000 depending on the value of your house

I need a Literature Review on applications of Operational Research in the aviation transport industry by Monday.

£250 grand if it overheats, catches fire and burns your house down.

Warning - DO NOT leave irons on all day or leave unattended!!

have you ever had a house burn down yet joe? if you do plan on doing any of those i would seriously reconsider

Sounds like Joe went for the 4 way mortgage and the trouble is just starting....

Tell your co-purchasers that you lick your cheese as well, they won't touch it after that.
