End of Season Thoughts

Looking at the final table its clear that our main problem was that we drew far too many matches.If we had won 8 of the 21 that we have drawn then we would be in the Play Offs.Our defensive record reads well alongside higher placed teams and we conceeded less goals than all 4 of the Play Off sides.We've only let in 1 in the last 4 matches.However the other big problem is Goalscoring,or the lack of it.Teams like Crewe,Watford,Cov all outscored us.In my mind this is the Main position in which we need to strengthen,getting in someone to score 20-25 goals next season is vital.None of the forwards we have at the Club at the moment are capable of doing that IMO.I can't see Connolly scoring many more than this season and without the addition of an out and out goalscorer then I fear another season of mediocrity and no promotion challenge.Sure there are other positions that need strengthining but a Goalscorer is No.1 priority for me.
I think we could also get shut of 6 more players be it on free transfers or fees.
Morris-A joke that isn't funny anymore,pay him up or give him away.
Canero-Whatever...CL doesn't rate him/like him,unfit.Get rid he's never going to play.
Heath and Wright-OK great local lads,love the club etc but sentiment can't come into it.They aren't considered good enough by Levein so should leave for the good of the club and their own careers
Scowcroft-Well outstayed his welcome
Wilcox-Never welcome in the first place

The players you mention in my eyes might have Gudjonsson added to them.

In terms of drawing, I think the players have to stop worrying about losing. If they had won seven of the of those draws, they could have lost thirteen games and still got the same number of points. :roll: ;-) :mrgreen:

Quite a sensible rant.

It seems to me that there are two conflicting dynamics influencing our prospects for next season.

On the positive side, we may well have a manager who is both bright and stable. An improvement on both counts over his predecessor.

On the otherhand, it's clear that he is being told to manage improvement with a greatly diminished budget ie. savagely cut wage bill and presumably no money for transfer fees.

Not easy to accomplish a drastic improvement on that basis.

We can't score goals so we don't win games and to address that sort of situation usually takes money.

My gut feeling is that things are only going to improve .......slowly.

People who are now speculating that there is a basis for a promotion challenge have even less evidence on their side than last season.

unfortunately saying such things as homer has would of done us the world of good, if earlier in the season someone within the club said "you're shite piss off elsewhere" to scowcroft, wilcox, adams, gudjonsson etc the problem season could have improved and maybe hit a play off position
