squad announced

Scott Carson, Ben Foster, Joe Hart

Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Michael Dawson, Kieran Gibbs, Phil Jagielka, Glen Johnson, Joleon Lescott, Matthew Upson

Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, Steven Gerrard, Adam Johnson, James Milner, Theo Walcott, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Ashley Young

Darren Bent, Carlton Cole, Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney

Huddlestone should be in there and we suddenly look very weak at the back and Richards really shggould be 1st choice RB atm

Huddlestone still has a long way to go to improve his work on the ball and his general mobility. Micah Richards has not come on at all over the last year or more, if reports of his attitude on the training pitch are to believed, he's going nowhere fast. At this rate, I'd say that the half-english right back playing for Young Boys is in with a better shot of filling the slot.

It's beyond me why SWP, Crouchigol, Carlton Cole and Lescott are in the squad, proven no marks at international level (with Crouch occassionally offering to be the football equivalent of cricket's flat-track bully.)

With that squard I'd go for this first XI:

Hart

Johnson Jagielka Cahill Cole

Carrick Milner

Walcott Gerrard Johnson

Rooney

Not far off the team I thought about yesterday before the squad announced. Though I had a question mark at the spot for Carrick.

Even if it's at the cost of qualification, we've got these games as a team for blooding new and start the cycle again.

Also, wtf is Carlton Cole doing in the squad. He's completely lost his way at West Ham recently. They'd have been better stick that other lump in Carroll.

Pretty shit squad... very worrying that Michael Carrick has to be called up as one of 3 central midfielders. Carrick is shit and should be nowhere near the squad. Centre backs worrying too (I like Dawson and Jagielka, but the rest are again no for me)

We actually have some decent wingers though. That's why I went for Walcott upfront. Alternatively, put Theo on the wing and have Young playing off Rooney. Young was really good in our last game I think, same with Gibbs. Unfortunately for Gibbs, Ashley Cole is probably our best player (in terms of being consistently good)

I'd go along with that, including most of the team (Barry for Carrick) and formation. I think Crouch is a decent option though, especially when there are so many flat tracks out there in qualifying.

My only question is, has Jack Rodwell taken a shit on Fabio's back seat? I'd have him in the team, let alone the squad.
