The final was over as a contest after less than half an hour. Ronaldo shot Portugal into the lead from the penalty spot after Chivu had tripped Almeida. After 28 minutes Deco nodded in a second from Ronaldo's cross. Romania had their only shot on target from Marica close to the hour mark, but Hugo Almeida made sure Portugal wrapped up the win with a well taken one-on-one in the 84th minute.
