random question i know

can anyone think of fairly cheap trips to do in europe to get in 2 (or more) capital cities

i've done British capitals, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Prague, Budapest, Athens, Amsterdam, Brussels, Dublin, Warsaw

i was thinking:-

1) London>Vienna,>Danube>Bratislava>London

2) Rome & Vatican City

3) Baltics with train travel/ connecting flight between them

4) Belgrade & Sarajevo with connecting flight

be interested to hear if anyone has travelled former Yugoslavia...or can think of ways of getting a few capitals in a few days

I would suggest going to Rome and the Vatican (absolutley brilliant) then i would get cheap train over to either Ancona or Bary and get a ferry (again cheap) over to split or another city and travel by train upto Zegreb or even carry on to the the Bosnian and Hungarian capitals.

Train travel and internal flights in these areas are very cheap.

aha, not even thought about crossing the adriatic, that would help knock off a few ex-yugo ones

there's even a fast catamaran from Bari to Durres in Albania...

edit:
oooh BA fly to Tirana for £84. London>Rome/Vatican>Bari>Durres>Tirana>London

wahey

Definitely try to get to Sarajevo. It is well worth a visit. I was there for a FK Sarajevo-Sigma Olomouc UEFA Cup qualifier back in 2002, and I had a great time. It is one city in Europe I would love to try to visit again.

Bratislava is 'okay', but personally I don't see a need to spend more then one or two days there - at the most.

If you have the time then fly to rome and do vat city too, then train to venice through san marino. From there get train to belgrade (ljubljana, zagreb on way). Skopje is a pikey pit so i wouldn't bother to be honest.

i've been to Olomouc on the way back from Banik Ostrava vs Middlesbrough to Prague, i stopped to be sick in a quarry

Bratislava would only be a few days, my ex (well one of many) was from Slovakia and even she didn't big up Bratislava that much

Sarajevo pencilled in, i know there's a monument to Franz Ferdinand's assassination, but is there a monument to Torvill & Dean? ;)

flying to Ljubliana on 1st or March with current Mrs DV, it's piss cheap, supposed to be beautiful, so i can be romantic and a tightwad at the same time ;)

i like the idea of the adriatic train route, but i might get sick of the train, just 2 or 3 at a time i think

and i have to go Skopje, the ultimate aim is to go all European capitals

having trouble keeping up with former Yugoslavia though, effing Podgorica and Pristina anyone!!

Also the Berne - Vienna train passes through Vaduz. 3 in 1 trip?

For some very strange reason me and my mate had a facsination with lichstenstein when we were in primary school. Vaduz is one place i must visit, even though it is only tiny and full of financial companies.

Yeah, Bratislava is 'okay', but Slovakia has beautiful countryside.

I currently live quite close to Olomouc, and it is probably my favourite city in the Czech Republic. How did you find the Banik supporters? Their 'hardcore' are probably the most violent/intimidating in the Czech Republic.

Belgium is in a mix-up and could be split soon too.

Eh?
I would've thought something like that might have made the news or are you just posting content from your dreams again Hazz?

bloody walloons causing trouble again?

I went to a Banik-Sigma game a few years back, and we weren't allowed any where near Banik supporters. Met at the train station by riot police, escorted 'the long way' to the stadium, escorted back, and thrown on our own train car without tickets.

In twenty years time there won't be any individual sovereign states within the EU.

If that is the case I am not sure I will be living in the EU.
