I suspect it is a matter of style. I never saw him play for Leicester, but last night he was possibly WK's best player, forming a very impressive right sided partnership with their wide midfielder. Between them they gave Riise a pretty torid time in the first half, and he put some superb balls into the box. He was also one of only 2 or 3 WK players who got on with the game without diving, histrionics, and general "gamesmanship"
However his defensive duties were somewhat different to what I assume was expected of him at Leicester. Like many continental teams their full backs were mainly concerned with occupying key spaces, pushing attackers out of dangerous positions etc. with actual challenges & tackles being more the business of the defensive midfielders who were constantly backing up.
