The right winger for us, Beswick maybe was superb before he went off, i kept calling him Gradel. :icon_redf:icon_redf:icon_redf The Kids play the game superbly well and were much better technically than wolves, but thier strikers were massive!! We just didnt take our chances, our goal was excellent footwork by McKay who looks like a good player. Wolves equalised in the last seconds of the game from a deflected shot. We missed several chances prior to that to wrap the game up. Our keeper made several excellent stops in extra time and looks like he could be a good prospect. Thier winner was from a bad defensive mistake 20 yards from our area, the CB seemed to misjudge how far away he was from the keeper and in the end did nothing. Their striker finished well, he also looked like he will be a decent player btw. We had pressure at the end but again missed chances. Odihambo in his natural setting was also a class above but was less effective once moved to the right wing in the second half.

Was it at the Walkers? I'm guessing it was because all the lights were on when I went by (about 8:20)

Was there a decent crowd?

Os reports 500, much less than for the Westerby cup final, lots of brummie accents floating about, at least 100 of those were wolves fans.

I assume that this is the same bunch of youngsters that some people have been saying are the best we've produced for a generation ?

The same group who are so good that we don't need Mandaric and his money, because they are going to come through into the first team and take the footballing world by storm ?

Thought so

Yeah that's them.... don't forget the foxestalk quest to get Jeremy Beagle* as manager.

(*I know it's not his real name)

In fairness thier overall quality was considerably better than wolves and they are a very skillful team. Porter, Dodds and Logan were there supporting, but a few more first teamers could have done with watching. They build attacks patiently and pass really well, they also realise that as our strikers are midgets there is little point playing long balls or high crosses into the box. Watching them made me realise what we are missing by watching the first team!!

Why would brummies be supporting Wolves? Surely Wolves supporters have Black Country accents - quite a different thing.

The ignorance of some people is truly shameful Boc :icon_wink

Not to my untrained ears. :)

Edit to say, there seemed to be lots of friends/family there, many of which were Villa fans. It was a strange crowd!!

Youth suffer extra-time defeat

Leicester City were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup last night as Wolves rallied to beat them 2-1 in extra-time at the Walkers Stadium.

City looked to have booked their place in the fourth round when forward Billy McKay gave them a second-half lead.

But the under-18s conceded an equaliser in second-half injury-time before Wolves snatched the tie in extra-time.

Academy manager Jon Rudkin said: "We are very disappointed for the boys. It's important they learn from it."

City started brightly and almost took the lead on five minutes when forward Eric Odhiambo diverted Joe Mattock's right-wing cross inches past the far post.

Midfielder Ryan Beswick then fizzed a shot narrowly wide and defender Scott Garner went close before Wolves midfielder Mark Salmon tested City keeper Carl Pentney with a well-struck drive.

With half-time approaching Odhiambo, who made his first-team debut in the Carling Cup defeat by Aston Villa, almost gave City the lead. The impressive youngster exchanged passes with strike partner McKay before firing a dipping drive on to the crossbar.

City midfielder Tom Tejan-Sie had the ball in the net early in the second-half but was called back for handball.

City's dominance was rewarded on 69 minutes when McKay latched on to Odhiambo's clever throughball for a clinical finish.

It sparked Wolves into life with forward Liam Hughes forcing two good saves from Pentney, while Beswick almost added a second at the other end.

City looked to be closing the tie out when Hughes rifled home from the edge of the area with the last kick of the game.

The forward then added his second on 108 minutes, capitalising on a defensive mistake to fire past Pentney and, despite some concerted late City pressure, send Wolves through.

City: Pentney, Mattock, Rowe-Turner, Tejan-Sie, Magunda (c) (Tuttle 39 (Cox 100)), Garner, Rochester (C King 87), A King, McKay, Odihambo, Beswick, Subs not used: Cisak, Howard.
