I was actually in Newquay for that total solar eclipse in 1997. It really was a bizarre few minutes.

Cornwall and Devon was the place to be to see it. It was pretty wierd in Leicester too. All the birds stopped flying and singing for those few minutes too.

It was about 70-80% around here if i remember. Down Newquay it went pitch black, the birds thought it was armageddon. Watching the daylight disappear through a dark shadow that raced across the sea was very strange. I filmed it as it happened, and to see so many cameras flashing in the dark background around the bay was also spectacular in itself.
