I’m currently racing my way through this excellent book about THAT season.

Two things come to mind.

Firstly as I read the passage about Kante’s brilliance, I’m once again despairing at the lack of a decent DVD bringing together proper highlights of the season, not just the goals but all the little Kante moments of genius and tenacity and the Huth and Morgan defending (incidentally also why wasn’t there a DVD of our champions league campaign?)

Secondly the stuff about our sports science, the dressing room, and the preparation we put into everything from the moment Knocky missed the penalty v Watford. It does feel as if this stuff can quite often be post-hoc justification. There are I’m sure plenty of examples with good planning and a strong dressing room that leads to no success at all.

But this book sells us as a class above. And i can’t help but wonder how much of that infrastructure is still in the club? Are we still that well oiled machine? I can’t possibly comment - I’ve no idea what goes on in our sports science or scouting department. But it would be intriguing to know in reality how things have changed.
