I know the 90's was a good era, but the 60's looked phenomenal....

Thing about the 1960s was we were matched up against Man City (Never "City" in those days, when they were in Div 2, not being owned by a medievalist state floating on a feudal raft of serfdom, to pay the wages of the players) just about every League cup and FA cup for five seasons.

Only won once, the "Frank Large" match in 1968 when we came from behind (Insert off colour joke here) to put four past them - just like last season - when the Kop was packed so tight, we made enough of our own gravy to keep Pukka Pies going for yonks.

Happy days, but nothing on our glorious present.

:)I was there and when the 4th goal was scored the noise of the 42,000 crowd was reported to have been heard as far away as Birstall (not the one in Yorkshire).;)

Ike's posts are always interesting and I hope he will not mind if I enjoy a bit of pedantry.

A medievalist state is a wonderful concept; the government would hold interminable discussions and never agree on anything. Sadly I believe he meant "a medieval state".

A pet peeve of mine is the use of the word "medieval" or "feudal" to mean "backward". Abu Dhabi is backward and oppressive; it is not medieval or feudal and does not have serfs.

Clearly have to rotate for this. Don't want an upset but even our second string should be capable of beating Fleetwood and we've had too many games over Christmas to not give players a rest when we have a chance.

Wholesale changes really.

Hamer (would still prefer EJ though)
Amartey, Dragovic, Benny, Chilwell
Albrighton, Silva, James, Musa,
Slimani, Iheanacho

IMO Armartey is one of the players we should rest becuse if he got injured we would be struggling next Prem game So id play Knight or Johnson. I think Barnes will play, if Vardy is able im sure he willinsist on being in the squad. Hopefully they wont be needed but Mahrez and Okizaki to be on the bench

This team should easily be strong enough to get us through:

Schmeichel
Amartey Benny Dragovic Chilwell
King Silva James
Gray Slimani Iheanacho

Hamer, Fuchs, Huth, Thomas, Ulloa, Choudhury, Barnes

I'd also send Ndidi, Maguire, Iborra, Vardy, Mahrez, Morgan, Simpson and Albrighton to a beach for a week.

They've got a week off until our next game. Play as much of the first team to get through. this is our cup final. If we win then the next round is our cup final and so on. Wigan won the ****er once, even Bostock ****ing Stanley have and they don't even exist. We haven't but have lost it enough times in the final to be an answer to a quiz question though. The league's pretty much done so just try and win what is left.

And they weren't in Div 2 for long either.

I'm usually all in favour of heavy rotation for these sort of matches. However, I genuinely believe that we can win this.

It's the only real missing trophy. We've got the squad and we've got the opportunity. If we can avoid an away trip to a big side, we shouldn't have any obstacles that cannot be overcome.

In fact, I've just had £20 on us at 25/1. Why the feck not?
25/1 Who with?

Loads of places (bet365, skybet, betfair, 888 etc.) - we're 28/1 with a couple

With our approach to cup competitions we should be 250/1

Don't waste ya cash

We rarely see eye to eye on cup selections. But for a very occurrence I had actually considered we could afford to rest a few tomorrow (Spurs 2 years ago being the only year I have honestly been happy to throw the cup away)

But then I remembered we are on TV. And as Boc said, we don’t want to be embarrassed on national TV. So for me go for the win, go for the cup, and avoid becoming the national laughing stock. (The odd change, such as resting Mahrez for his transfer talks, will be acceptable)

Absurd to think if I recall correctly that the year we won the league there were PL fixtures the midweek of FA Cup 3rd rnd. One of the worse signals the powers that be could send. Without that threat this week, Man U, Liverpool and Everton all played good line ups tonight.

Good second/third XI, but we need seven of the First XI on the bench as a possible rescue squad.

You don’t fancy a cup run this year then?
