I finally got round to watch the 120 greatest goals dvd last night and in at number 52 with a bullet is dear old Gary Coatsworth (who arguably had the best ever LCFC tash - in fact I have created a poll to find out).

The goal shown is a pretty decent effort by Gary but I'm sure I remember him scoring another blinder when he beat the keeper from way out on the right wing (although he probably intended it to be a cross).

Does anyone else remember this goal or is what's left of my brain playing tricks on me?

He walloped one in from about eighty yards
Against Luton at Filbo - early eighties

One of the best City goals ever

Love this thread, it's got a bit of everything.

I vote for Ming too.

Thanks everyone.

I'm sure it was way out wide, the one Webmeister describes is like the one on the dvd i.e. fairly central and at distance.

The goal I'm thinking of stands out in my mind as
1. it seemed to be an incredible place to score from (especially for a player of his calibre), although I was in the Carling stand at the time so it may have distorted things,
2. the stunned silence in Filbo
3. the slightly embarrassed look on Gary's face.

Then again my memory been been known to let me down on more than one occasion.

I'll try and have a look at Foxes and Fossils tonight, he can't have scored that many.

I vaguely remember it, I think it might have been against Barnsley.

I'm sure he scored most of his Leicester goals against them (one of his former clubs).

Just checked in OF&F.

Soccerbase was wrong about him joining us in 1993, it was 1991.

He scored 4 goals for us. Two in a match at Barnsley, one at Wolves, and one goal at home, against Luton.

Thanks for that, you may well be right about Barnsley, I do seem to recall the oposition playing in red.

Think it was ascreamer from the edge of the boix, hed just come back from injury and as a result he was subject to a 'random' drugs test!

Vote for me you Tossers.

Well done Webby!

Ox Fox, I do remember this one but I'm not sure if it was Coatsworth. It was definitely intended as a driven cross but he got under it and it whooooooooooooooooosed into the top right corner. The goalie was totally deceived by the tragectory of the shot-cum-cross and put his hands on his head.

Any1 remember the David Oldfield goal at Man City in the cup, must have been at least 40 yards out and just squeezed it into the top right hand corner, best goal ive ever seen

I can't believe I'm the only person so far to vote for Bobby Smith. Maybe I'm the only one old enough to remember him!

I remember Bobby Smith. His wife used to teach drama at Leysland High in Countesthorpe. Word has it that she left after someone stuck photocopies all ovet the school of some playboy modelling shots she'd had done.

Quality !!!!

that gary coatsworth goal at barnsley brings back good memorys,i nearly did not go,due to watching leicester play upteen times at barnsley, and never seen them win there.the f.a cup replay was the final straw, after joachims brilliant goal, they scored in the last minute,no thanks to owen archdeacon and eventually knocked us out on penaltys.

i vowed i would never go to the oakwell ground again, but after some persuading i went, and sure enough we go a goal behind, but thanks to,i am for evergrareful coatsworth grabs the equaliser, then shot come cross wins for us,did i celebrate that night.

just for the record joachims goal was the best i have seen by a leicester player.

I went to that one, officially the coldest most exposed terracing in the world! Great memories of the Oakwell bottle neck where the two sets of fans met after the game. Not a wise choice to sing "Where have your coal mines gone, where have your coal mines gone?" by the City travellers.
