Even more idle speculation in The Sun?

Leicester backroom coach Gerry Taggart, 39, is a shock contender to take over at League Two strugglers Grimsby Town.

That'd force me to look out for Grimsby's results, something which I never wish to do. What sort of idiot would go anywhere near Grimsby, let alone live there?

Also in the Star. :102:

They'll appoint Russell Slade

Doubt if Gerry will even get a sniff

Apparently Taggart has had an interview at Grimsby and there's the former Leicester City link with John Elsom as a director up there.

At the moment Gerry along with people like John Rudkin is a permanent member of the staff unlike the team that came in with OIlie and then the trio that replaced them when Nigel was appointed.
He might be better with the job security of being backroom staff at Leicester than here today probably gone tomorrow at Grimsby.
However, well you do with a small club you are under pressure as directors simply beome unrealistic. This was shown by Peterborough sacking Darren Ferguson.
Stay here Gerry where you have a nice secure billet and are much liked.

If he wants to be a manager and not just a coach i'm sure he'll take the chance if he gets offered the opportunity

I agree also he needs to start building experience and with it a reputation as a Manager. I doubt very much that he will be given the opportunity to take on the job here without some sort of experience and track record. IMO he has to take a job like this to prove whether he has the ability to be a decent manager before he is let loose at a club like ours. Sometimes you have to take one step back to take two forwards.

Sometimes if you are Paula Abdul you have to take one step and two steps back.

Which two forwards do you think he will take?

I have looked up Grimsby Town managers on Wilipedia. The last five managers before Mike Newell have been Paul Groves, Russell Slade, Alan Buckley, Graham Rodger and Stuart Watkiss. Nolne of them seem to have managed the two steps forward.
If you are taking a step backward it is worth making sure it is not into a hole from which you will never emerge.

Incidentally Mike Newell who team is so lambasted in that letter was sometimes spoken of as a candidate to replace Ian Holloway. Thank goodness he did not.
