Was told today that the Real madrid game cost 2mill. The revamp at the training groung (or should I say re-build) is costing 4million. We have outlayed somewhere in the region of 9mill on transfer fee's. Meaning an outlay of approx 15 million. Yet they (LCFC) sold the TV rights JUST for the game against Real to Asia for a fee of 9Mill yes NINE Million. Meaning the outlay is down to 6Mill and then add on top the income from the TV Rights for the full season (which sadly I don't know how much that is) But with the shirt sales & Programme sales etc..from saturday and indeed the club shop was busy today when I went down it all points to a decent income the owners are bringing in. Meaning a new look squad, Training ground and Stadium for all in all very little.

I find £9million for ONE friendly game very hard to believe. I've either completely misjudged the market for this sort of thing out in Asia or you've been misinformed.

Do not forget the stadium outlay, state-of-the-art pitch, big screens, shop/ticket office revamp and stadium re-branding will have been the thick end of £1million. Plus the increased annual wage bill, many more millions.

It's obviously complete bollocks. Premier League teams get £7.5 million per season for overseas TV coverage (with pretty much every game being shown live somewhere).

Dont mince your words Jeff :icon_lol:

Quite.

I think the formula is more like:

If Leicester go up this year and can survive without TOO much more investment = Owners have spent wisely

If Leicester do not go up this year = Oh dear.

I asked if it was for the whole season, which would seem a bit more like it. But he said it was for just that game.

You know when you have those moments where you think "I wish I'd thought it all through before starting the thread" :)

(Size of club to the power of massive) X (Total investment) / (No. of times Elvis Hammond is seen in Morrisons) = (new price of Monster Munch)

Would you not think it odd for Real Madrid to be part of a game but expect to be paid less than a quarter of the proceeds?

It'd be a belting way to do some good old fashioned money laundering. Not that we would of course, we're not like Carson Yeung after all.

they got a fixed fee tho and not a %.

I know that - and it wasn't £2M either. But the fixed fee would have been much more if that kind of TV money was available.

You say that like you know as a fact it wasn't? And thinking about it, it was shown in 15 different Countries. Maybe a small tidy sum of money for the rights from each of the networks could add up to a fairly vast and somewhat seemingly ridiculous amount for one game??

I reckon several small tidy sums would amount to a little vast amount. Check your maths again.

That's true.

But it would be extremely naive to think that Real Madrid would not know that and arrange to get a bigger share of the spoils. They didn't get where they are today by being done over financially by other (smaller) clubs.
