Expecting Errikson to come in and suddenly take us on a ten game winning streak reminds me of that property programe Grand Designs. Basically if they buy an attractive old house that needs some work, but find that the foundations have been in some way underminded, they don't just plonk a new roof on top and say 'ta-dah!'. They spend time and money (both) making sure that the fundamentals are correct before applying the finishing and usually more costly touches that bring it all together. This normally results in things running behind schedule in order to be just right.
In exactly the same way - Sven can't plonk Michael Owen up front with Steve Howard when we haven't yet solved the problem of who within our defense and midfield is really up to the job of taking the club forward.
Morrisson, ,Nielsen, Berner, Wellens, Dyer, Howard, Fryatt, Waghorn, Lamey, Abe, Moreno, Gallagher have all shown significant defects of either pace, finishing, passing or positioning this year - and only 3 to 4 of the above list will (I believe) survive the cut by the end of the year. They got us promoted, but if they are constantly outpaced, outjumped, outfought and/or outscored by their opposite numbers they need to go to clubs with less ambition, where their hit and miss qualities will measure up.
Meanwhile - although plunging city into the moral lowground of over inflated wage bill to turnover ratio - I for one can't wait until the average quality of our starting eleven makes us all realise that constant arguments about wellens vs oakley or howard vs fryatt are really just arguments over shades of disappointing grey. None of them are the answer. The day that a sven centre forward takes a pass from midfield knocks it wide and then has the pace and class to get on the end of a quality ball into the middle we'll realise the slim pickings of quality that we've been mired in for years.
Viva the svenolution.

Out of that lot I see futures for Morrison, Wellens, Dyer, Waghorn and Abe - all as squad players.

Interesting analogy Sparky, one factor that this would take is time.

Personally, i'd like to see us consolidate this year, of course if promotion comes take it, if it doesn't, take the league by storm next season.

However, it has been shown already this season, that time is a commodity that few are willing to give for success!

So have we signed Kevin McCloud yet?

Sarah Beeny's on her way - but she's on maternity leave until january and needs time to get back to peak fitness.
she's great up front though.

We'd need an average 2 points per game from this point on to make the play offs and an absurd average to gain automatic promotion. With the current personnel and even with a strengthen squad in January - its extremely unlikely that we'll get near promotion this season.

Given that Sven is an experienced (th' not at this level), quality manager one would hope that the sensible way forward is to use this season to sort out the squad and playing style.

The questions are whether the club and supporters and Sven himself have the mindset for a longer haul than the wishful thinkers assumed when he took over. This club desperately needs some stability now or we'll finish up back in League 1 rather than the Premiership.

Of course, the results of this season just underline the outstanding job Pearson put in last year.

Great analogy, Sparky - here's our starting point....

I think you'll find that this is the more expensive sister hotel. Ours is just down the road.

People need to get a grip and realise that we are in the hunt for neither automatic promotion nor the play-offs. This season is destined to be a fight against relegation; I have neither seen nor heard anything which suggests any different. We're certainly not going to get 2-points a game for the remainder of the season. We need more than 1 point a game to avoid relegation; I'd like to hope that we are capable of that.

Well said Sparky, your right the side is simply not good enough. To many ifs and buts about to many of the current players. Its only a couple of seasons ago that we were playing WBA in the same league, they have moved forward, and on last nights display we have definatly gone in the opposite direction, and what is really worrying is the fact that their one of the favourites for relegation. Bringing in loan players from lower divisions, both here and abroad as Sousa did is not going to work, they are in these divisions for a reason, the vast majority are not good enough for the higher leagues. The likes of Dyer, and Elliott, come along once in a blue moon. I also agree with Redditch, it shows what a good job Pearson did, like MON who was brilliant at bringing in players to do a specific job, Lennon, Savage, Elliott and Muzzy, spring to mind, they both built a team on the back of an individuals playing abilities, neither tried to get them to do things they couldn't, they played to their strengths as a result you had cohesive teams. Both of these managers teams punched well above their weight and got results. I think Sven has got his work cut out, with this present squad to get us to the play offs, if he does that, I for one will be very pleasently suprised.

With this squad he's got his work cut out to keep us up

The sooner people start realising that, the better

With roughly the same squad Pearson got in to the playoffs last season as well.

Can we each have a punch for free?

I like him. He sticks up for architects when generally people are only too quick to rubbish them.

... but a squad whose confidence has been shattered, whose level of fitness has been allowed to deteriorate and whose technical know-how has become confused.
