.....Lets give these players time, granted neither has come into the club and made the immediate impact that many had hoped, but both have shown that given time they do have the potential to be very good players at this level.

For Hume it has been a big step up, it was acknowledged by the manager that when he signed he was not as fit as would have been expected, due to his international commitments in the summer, this plus the step up in class and the obvious upheavel of moving a young family away from a settled environment will have taken it's toll. But his performances have certainly given reason to be optimistic, he is quick, skilful and tenacious and once he can build up some confidence and he starts to settle at this level then we will IMO have a player who is capable of being a regular match winner.

In Hammond's case, for a footballer of 24/25 he is very inexperienced, he is probably on a level with a 19/20 year in terms of football expereince, reminds me very much of Joey last season, he is learning the game and this will take time to develop, he had only made a handful of appearances in English senior football, with the majority of his "experience" gained in reserve football against a mix of 17/18 year olds and the odd senior pro making a comeback from long term injury, whilst this is a grounding, it cannot be compared to the rigours of regular first team football in the championship. Elvis has pace to burn and is a whole hearted player who will develop into a good player at this level, but we must be paitent, Paddy McCarthy who was playing reserve team football when we signed him, has come on no end over the past 8 or 9 months and that is through playing at this level, he is learning all the time and developing, and this is what Elvis must do.

IMO we will see gradual progress and improvement from both these players, over the next few weeks and months, and in 4 or 5 months time they will a lot better players and they will become an integral part of Levein's team.

 Someone talking sense, about fecking time :038:

I'll never boo Hammond, but I'll say now that he'll never be good enough at this level, he simply hasn't got the ability. His touch, runs, hold up play, awareness, passing and finishing are all at best below par and at worst woeful. Apart from pace he really hasn't got much going for him.

Its all very well saying he needs time and games but in my opinion thats about a season worth of games and no team or manager can afford that risk.

Hume looks a wee bit short of quality at the moment but at least he looks like he has some awareness and ability unlike Hammond.

If I was Levein I'd give Hume the next 10 games or so up front with MDV barring injury and suspension and use Hammond from the bench so his pace can give him a chance against tired defenders.

If that fails then its time for a new striker.

Both got lots of promise, agreed, personally I would like to see another striker pushing them for places too, that may buck their ideas up further.

I think Hammond owes you a few quid for the above....obviously CL is a professional in the trade and must have his reasons for shelling out on a non-scoring striket.. but I wait to see the results more in hope than expectation.

Agreed the two of them are best Striking options we have.

They are both playing tonight for the reserves. So its up to them to show their worth and prove a point to CL.
Bit of an attacking team as Chambers in as well.

Unless its 4-3-3 or Hume or Hammond are on the wing

I think we should get Arthur Scargill in, he was a top striker.

I think we should afford them both the luxury of a little time and paitence before we write them off, have we not learnt, look at Connolly, couldnt hit a cows with a banjo in his early games but then 12 months later he is sold for a kings ransom and we are all bemoaning the sale of our star striker, also look at MDV pillored by the majority last season but now he is our top scorer. Surely this proves that it does take time for players to settle at new clubs, and both of these were far more experienced.

I think people are being far too rash and judgemental in too short a time.
