Leicester City Football Club is delighted to confirm that defender Harry Maguire has signed a new contract, keeping him at King Power Stadium until June 2023.

- Leicester City defender Harry Maguire signs a new contract to 2023
- The 25-year-old joined from Hull City in June 2017
- Maguire was named City’s Player of the Year for 2017/18
- The centre-back helped England reach the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup

Since signing from Hull City in the summer of 2017, the 25-year-old England international has quickly developed into a key player for the Foxes and is now widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

Harry played every minute of Leicester City’s 2017/18 Premier League campaign on his way to winning the Club’s Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season Awards, as well as a place in England’s World Cup squad. Maguire’s exceptional performances continued throughout England’s FIFA World Cup campaign in Russia, with the defender’s goal against Sweden helping to send the Three Lions to the semi-finals for the first time since 1990.

Speaking to LCFC TV, Harry said: “Ever since I came to this Club, I’ve always reiterated how good they’ve been to me. They gave me an opportunity to play in the Premier League and built a great platform for me to go and perform at the World Cup, so I thank them a lot. I owe them a lot and I’m looking forward to the future.”

The Sheffield-born centre-back made his professional debut for Sheffield United in April 2011 and went on to make over 100 appearances for the Blades across three seasons.

Maguire then made the permanent switch to Hull City in July 2014 before joining Wigan Athletic on loan in February 2015.

With Championship experience under his belt, Harry was heavily involved for Hull the following season, which saw his side gain promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

The 2016/17 season turned out to be another impressive one for Maguire, he made a total of 36 appearances and earned Hull’s fans’ and Players’ Player of the Season titles before the Foxes swooped to secure his services. Since joining Leicester City, Harry has been a mainstay of the first team, featuring 44 times and scoring twice for the Foxes in their 2017/18 campaign.

The England international’s ability to run with the ball has seen him play a considerable role at both ends of the pitch with only Wilfred Ndidi making more successful passes for the Foxes than Maguire last season.

The cultured defender also has an eye for goal, displayed by his late equaliser in December’s draw with Manchester United and his last-gasp long range drive which secured victory away at Southampton last month.

Harry’s consistent and assured performances were rewarded with his first England cap against Lithuania in October 2017 and he has since played a further 11 times for his country. Maguire was a key part of the Three Lions 2018 FIFA World Cup squad and scored his first international goal with an unstoppable header in the quarter-final victory over Sweden.

I don't think his defending is good enough for the very top level. Controversial.

Good stuff, but in reality it'll only mean we get a higher price when Man C/ Man U/ Chelsea come knocking - which they inevitably will.

Man City dropped points the other week so I'd expect Pep to need another billion to spend in January.

You’ve got to spend money to make money.

Ndidi, Kasper and Harry all now have enormous prices over their heads. If we manage to keep all three for the lengths of their contracts it’ll mean we are contending in Europe every season.

Incredible times though. All three will likely captain their countries at some point. The spine of our side is a thing of beauty with Vards too.

And here I was thinking that the majority of our ‘better’ players that have just signed new contracts would leave last summer. Good job to all involved with keeping them here.
