Leicester City Academy graduate Harvey Barnes has signed a new four-year-deal with the Club, keeping him at King Power Stadium until June 2025.

The talented winger joined City at the age of nine and has progressed through the ranks to establish himself as a regular in the First Team and one of the most exciting young talents in England.

The 23-year-old has made 101 appearances for the Foxes in all competitions, scoring 21 goals and helped City to the Emirates FA Cup trophy last season for the first time in the Club’s history.

Speaking to LCFC.com, Barnes said: “I’ve been here for so many years now, it feels like home. For me, it was a no-brainer. Of course, I wanted to extend my stay here.

“It’s been something that’s been going on in the background and to sign now is great. It’s right at the start of a new season as well, which I know everyone is excited about.”

Having steadily risen through the ranks of City’s academy, Barnes made his debut for the First Team at FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League in December 2016, before joining MK Dons on loan for the second half of the 2016/17 season, where he scored five goals in 23 appearances for the League 1 outfit.

At the end of the campaign, he was voted Development Squad Player of the Season for Leicester City and Young Player of the Season by MK Dons. That summer, he also won the Toulon Tournament with England Under-20s and was joint recipient of the Golden Boot award, having scored four goals in the competition.

During the 2017/18 campaign, Barnes continued his development on loan at Championship side Barnsley, scoring five goals in 25 appearances, before being recalled by the Foxes in January.

In the summer of 2018, he joined West Bromwich Albion on loan, where he scored nine times in 26 appearances for the Baggies, establishing himself as a fan favourite, before being recalled once again in January.

Barnes went on to make 16 appearances for the Foxes during their 2018/19 campaign, scoring his first Premier League goal in April – a last-gasp equaliser in the Club’s 2-2 draw with West Ham United at London Stadium.

In 2019/20, he enjoyed his first full season with the First Team, featuring for them 42 times in all competitions and scoring seven goals. He was also named Young Player of the Season and scooped Goal of the Season for his stunning strike against Sheffield United.

Barnes enjoyed his most impressive campaign to date last term, despite missing the final three months of the season due to injury. The winger scored 13 goals in 35 appearances for the Foxes, helping them to their first-ever Emirates FA Cup Final victory. He also made his senior England debut in a 3-0 friendly win against Wales.

More recently, he added the FA Community Shield to his trophy haul after City overcame Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley Stadium.

Top scorer this season I think

Great news, although I am a little surprised on the contract length.

Given his age and ability why isn't it 5 or even 6 years?

He is such a threat when running at the opposition. A fully fit Barnes, Ricardo, Vardy and Justin in our team is such a handful. We might even be able to add Daka and Soumare to that in the near future.

We've (lots of clubs do) had youth players coming through that have got to 21-23 years old and have stopped progressing beond average.

I think Mr. H. Barnes has a bit more to him.

Smart move by the club he really has come on exponentially last season, if he has a stormer this season it will make other clubs think twice when moving into the transfer market for him close season.
