His spelling needs work.

I know you probably meant it as a joke, but that is pretty disrespectful. This young man fought at just the age of 19 and died tragically. He was writing to his mother, she was the intended audience for these letters and she knew what he was writing (his grammar, spelling slang etc) or at least I get the impression. I also get the impression that he is trying to stay as close as possible to his mum, as he may of never seen her again; which sadly was the case here. It was a brave thing to do, he didn't seem to come across as sad or scared, this was an extremely brave thing to do, as he probably felt sad, scared and probably many other emotions at the time. In fact he must of felt petrified. These letters will be the last part of Cyrus that his mother will have, so I think she would appreciate that he wrote with his style of writing, rather than, excellent spelling and grammar as it would seem as though the army had wrote the letters. I'm not trying to have a go, but remember, this man is dead so show respect, he deserves that much at least

Being part of an organisation responsible for many aid relief missions and peace keeping situations must also be extremely rewarding.

You seriously think that "peace keeping situations" are extremely rewarding? Extremely traumatising would be more accurate and you don't need to join the military to take part in aid relief missions. In fact, if aid relief work is what you're looking for, you'd be more likely to find it by working for one of the hundreds of charities that specialise in that sort of thing. The chances of getting that experience with the military machine is unlikely at best.

I'm not sure if you read my follow-up post. I don't normally write big posts, but do try to embed deeper meaning in the shorter ones.
So here's my reply to you......it's 'must have', not 'must of'.

Hello mum, this is going to be hard for you to read, because im not vey good as spellink

:)

hard for her to read...

assuming she can read of course

WTF took you so long?

You would have thought with that amount of time to reply he would have thought something up remotely humorous, obviously a bit more time is needed.

The most irreverant, sickest, most thoughtless, unpalletable humour I have ever encountered was amongst colleagues in the Navy, Army & Airforce. There are no taboos in their world.

Oh, well that makes it ok then.

I have many friends in the forces and I guarantee non of them would drop their humor to a level where they resort to taking the piss out of a fallen serviceman.

Well Lako it obviously makes some people laugh. I wouldn't imagine serviceman finding this funny.
I would disagree. The people with the sickest sense of humour tend to be the people who deal with death and suffering on a daily basis.
My brother in law is a captain in the marines and thinks nothing of describing Iraqis as a bunch of boy buggerers, whilst suggesting that the yanks wear dogtags to remind them how to spell their names.
My wife works with amputees in the local hospital and loves a joke about harmless and legless vets
And as for undertakers......

If you seriously think these things are anywhere near being on the same level then I have to question your sanity Rhydal.

My mates who are in the army wouldn't think twice about drinking each others piss for a laugh, but insulting and using a fallen soldier as a means of comedy for a quick laugh is certainly not within them.

I suppose it's down to personal preference as to whether you want to be someone who uses the death of a young man as means for a quick laugh or whether you would rather be someone who condemns such pathetic actions.

Some people like Ricky Gervais. I think he's a humourless c***. Everyone finds humour in different ways.
I reserve my right to laugh at things other people take seriously and vice versa.
There are approx 7bn people in the world. If you assume (probably incorrectly) that they live 'til on average 70, that's 100 million deaths a year, or around 300 thousand a day. What makes Cyrus so special?

His name I'd imagine, no one else would be that cruel.
