Help with PS3

Can anyone help me a problem with a PS3. After about 5 minutes it turns itself off saying that it is too hot.
I have looked at other PS3 forums but I cannot find the solution.
If anyone has any ideas how to alleviate this problem I would appreciate it greatly.
I think it could be a problem with the fan or perhaps a sensor on the motherboard?
I could take it to the Sony Centre but fear they will rip me off. Thank you in advance

No, but it seems to be quite a common problem.

But it might be too far away from the sofa to be plugged in then.

Sounds like a CPU fan failure. Throw it away and buy a 360
