If you can post it as an attachment to a usual post, that will solve your problem. ;)

As much as we dislike PT, he got us, albeit briefly, to the top of the Premier. Talk about dizzy heights....
Then we played Manure........

Hands up all those that still have the cutting out of the Mercury that shows us TOP!!! :icon_lol:

I know of 1 person that has it framed and hanging on the wall in his office... (Before you ask, I don't have an office ;) )

Come on xsubmariner you cant give PT any credit for getting us to the top, it was MON team. and as soon as PT started to meddle it started to fall apart

As much as it might hurt. :icon_cry: MON never actually got us to the top but PT did. Does that mean PT has got something that MON hasn't:102: (No rude replies please) ;)

PT is a classic example of the difference between a decent coach and an effective club manager.

The latter requires good judgements about players and he is/was obviously very poor in that respect.

I suspect that Hull City have benefitted from the lessons he has learned - at our expense.

That said, it was very probable that anyone following a truly great manager in MON would have a difficult time.

Whoever replaced MON was on to a loser - with the players MON brought in, the Board and the fans. How do you live up to the expectation that MON created?

Bottom line is that Taylor was an excellent coach but a shite manager:
1) He couldn't identify bargain talent or players that were going to improve the club. He wasted more money than any manager ever has (or is probably ever likely to in the future) on second rate dross.
2) He didn't have the man management / motivational skills to pull us out of an almighty slump following the Wycombe cup defeat.

I am sure he has learned a lot about management over the years since he left City and is now better equipped to deal with the challenges.

I personally think a lot of blame lies with the board at the time - who allowed themselves to get carried away with it all and didn't see the danger signs and inexperience in Taylor. To let him fritter away something like £25m in transfers and more on wages in such a short period of time was criminal. Taylor had no track record of spending money before or managing at this level, so how they expected him to know what he was doing is beyond me. This was one of the few times where an experienced Director of Football may have come in useful. Taylor also fell into the trap of believing all of the hype that he was getting at the time.
