Thoroughly deserved. He just seems to keep getting better and better. We thoroughly robbed Liverpool with the transfer fee.

Talking to a L'pool fan today, and he can't understand why they let Hobbs go.

Fully deserved recognition, hope he goes on to full colours and also plays for City in the premiership, sooner rather than later :icon_cool

More than deserved he has been immense this season, consistant, solid performances and would be easily good enough for England U21s.

I would not dream of suggesting that the Mercury would base a back page on very little. However, the whole story rests on one fact: Steve Wigley was present at a match where Hobbs played well. Steve Wigley goes to matches; that is his job. So far as I can tell Wigley has not said who he was watching and whether he was impressed or not. Is there any reason to believe he was there for Hobbs rather than Morrison or Waghorn?

I am always impressed by the ability of journalists to find enough news to fill the paper or the half hour news show. Journalists were not always so expert at creating stories. On Good Friday 1930 listeners tuning into the BBC news bulletin were told that nothing had happened that day and so they heard piano music insteaed.

Wigley is a funny name - makes me want gum and a home with a lawn.

Wigley is a nice gentle name. It sounds like a quiet friendly next door neighbour type. it is not a name for greatness.
On the other hand if Alex is short for Alexander you should be thinking not of gum and lawns but of leading Macedonian armies and conquering the East.
Before you comment on my name I have to confess that I was named not for the magnificent Michelangelo statue but for an elderly Welsh Prime Minister.

David, you & I will one day ponder on facts in a library in Keble College, Oxford. Fact.

Think back to the sunny days at the start of the season and the match against Real Vallodolid. I came away really impressed by a brilliant young defender. it was not Morrison or Hobbs but Luke O'Neill. I know he is on loan to Tranmere but does anyone know how he is doing.

I don't see why. Far more sensible than my mate saying Ryan Smith was a future England star.

I'm sure Thierry Henry said in an interview before that Ryan Smith would turn out to be one of the best players in the world

I remember the 4-2 win over Sheffield United under Levein and he was absolutely excellent. The report in the Sunday Times referred to his goal as something like a 'taste of the premiership' for Sheffield United, which shows how he was thought of at the time.

I don't think you can blame people for saying stuff like that at the time. I think it's really sad when such promising football careers go down-hill like his.

I think he has just signed for an MLS team, although it's probably been mentioned elsewhere on the forum.
