If the area isn't secure by Saturday it will be called off. The last time we had high winds like this an Everton fan died.

They will prefer to be safe than sorry, and rightly so

It will be three years this March. RIP Bernard Murphy :icon_sad:

Sad day that, but I was very impressed by the Liverpool fans a week later during the silence. Given the rivalry there was the distinct possibility that one or two idiots would have misbehaved. But given the tragedies that Liverpool have had to endure, I feel they would have dealt with any misbehavers themselves adequately

P.S. Mr Murphy told me that on the same day of Bernie's untimely death two Leicester fans where killed before the game by a overturning lorry , crushing them in their car .The father of these fans took time out to offer his condolences to the Murphy family.

Well done to those families but who were the other two poor sods? :icon_sad:

I've just had to print off 600 questionnaires for my dissertation and then realise they wouldn't all fit in my bag... walking across campus carrying all them in this wind was not fun.

Hopefully it dies down by the weekend. I've never known a game to be called off for wind anyway? Someone find me one that has ;)

West Brom had a game called off against Middlesbrough some years ago. The danger isn't with regard to the playing of the game, but of the safety of structures in the ground and the surrounding areas.

In today's culture it is even more likely that a game will be called off because of possible dangers to spectators on their way to and from the ground. Newcastle and Middlesbrough have both had games called off because streets in the area were frozen and presented a danger, even though the pitch was playable and the spectators' areas in the stadium were clear.

I was once on a general footie forum and a question 'Was The Most Eerie Game You Have Been To', I mentioned the Liverpool game after the Everton. Some Everton fan said that it was superb how Leicester and Liverpool treated the occasion. He also applauded Leicester for its understanding.

Am I the only one who read this thread and thought the roof on the holiday inn must have blown along way from the town centre to affect the lcfc ground? Yeh ok then ill get me coat.

I did for a minute FC.

Didn't Villa call a game off against us because of safety outside the ground and in the concourses during the Xmas Period. It helped that Villa had about 7 players out through injury.

Love to see the Claims Direct argument on that one.

The victim was forced by his addiction to football to walk down the pavement where he slipped over on the ice and ripped his tee shirt your Honour. Therefore my client is suing both the Newcastle council for its incompetence in not being able to keep a footpath clear of ice in freezing conditions and Newcastle football club because its their fault he's addicted.

Though probably not after their performance against Brum

Somebody will be sure to try such a claim sooner or later - even if it were to prove unsuccessful, it would still cost whichever club a penny or two to defend it.

And what about soem kind of moral obligation? I am sure that the club has no wish to put its supporters into a potentially dangerous situation.

Bloody hell. Lucky no-one was there. That hitting someone at X mph from that height could have killed someone instantly.

A bloke who was there when it happened phoned into RL, he said that he ran to his car, got inside, then a metal girder flew along the road and just under the vehicle.
