I'd say Pearson has changed between 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 pretty sporadically in his 2 spells here. Wouldn't say he favoured one over the other, he seems to like both about equally.
He also played more like a 4-2-3-1 towards the end of last season when Marshall played in the role behind the striker and put in his best performances there and looked far more effective playing there than out wide, though simultaneously Nugent looked completely wasted out wide.
I remember a time in the Championship season when he was here first time round when we played a 4-1-2-1-2 diamond for a while as well.
