Hughes Back In The Groove
Stephen Hughes was back to his best on the training pitches today after a frustrating spell on the sidelines.
The Foxes midfielder has had something of a disjointed season to date after picking up an ankle injury during a pre-season training session.
Hughes returned to the fold to face Sheffield Wednesday in September, but it was soon apparent that the former Rangers man had failed to fully recover from the knock and he was back on the treatment table a month later.
But after a period os intensive rehabilitation from the club's medical staff it now looks like Hughes' problems are finally behind him.
Manager Craig Levein said: "Stephen is looking very good after he received an injection in the problem area earlier in the week. I would say he was probably as good in training on Thursday morning as I have seen him this season. He feels fine and for the first time this season he is pain free in the ankle.
"Obviously that is going to ease his mind a little bit and hopefully we will now see him back on the pitch playing at the same consistent level as he was towards the end of last season.
"He picked up the ankle problem initially in pre-season and it kept him out for a long time. He got to the stage where he could run and kick the ball, but in certain situations if he really struck through the ball it would cause him quite a sharp pain.
"What was happening during games was he wouldn't pass the ball for more than 15 or 20 yards, which obviously restricts some of the decisions that he makes on the field.
"He wasn't playing naturally so we had to take him out again and pinpoint exactly where this area was that was causing the problem. He has now had the injection and feels a lot better.
"Stephen just wanted to play and he didn't really face up to the fact that he had a major problem that needed to be resolved. But it is done now so hopefully we will see the best of him in the months and weeks to come."
