I have bought many recommendations off here e.g. Brit Sea Power, Arcade Fire, stellastarr*. I have dont been disappointed yet. My birthday has just been and I am looking to invest in some CDs. I bought We Are Scientists album on Saturday has a stop gap, I have received a number of tip-offs lately about bands and I want your opinion over em. Any good and whats the best starting point for learning. I prefer albums rather than compliations.

Billy Bragg, heard a cover of A New England, very good.
Interpol
Wire
Orange Juice
The Clash, already got London Calling, love it but whats the next step?

I thought we was on about new bands/artisits.

In that case look no further than Obituary - World Demise for a cultured album

That's the new single by 'The Automatic'. think it's great. :icon_bigg

Regarding The Clash.
Most say that London Calling is their best and I agree that it is very useful. IMO the first albumn is a great basic punk/pop record, well worth having along with 'Give em enough rope' (second albumn not quite so good IMO).

Wire.
Well well well, nobod mentions them nowadays. Shame.
The first 3 albumns are great but the 3rd '154' is hard work.
The 1st 'Pink Flag' is great - nearly all 20 tracks less than 2 minutes. If you like XTC type strange punk stuff it's a must. Not much daytime radio 1 stuff.

Have fun

Billy Bragg - go for the "Back to Basics" CD it's got the first two albums and the Between The Wars ep on it...

The Clash - you could buy The Story of The Clash which is a good complilation of singles and album tracks across the whole spread of their career or if you want early stuff "The Clash" later stuff "Sandinista" which was originally released as a triple album!

If you like Stellastarr then you'll like Interpol .'Antics' is their better album IMO.

Television: Marquee Moon
Sonic Youth: Daydream Nation
The Replacements: All For Nothing / Nothing For All
The Fire Engines - anything
The Loft: Magpie Eyes
Swell Maps: A Trip to Marineville
New York Dolls: New York Dolls
Josef K: Endless Soul
