ICC award nominations

Anyone watching the cricket on Sky today would have probably heard about the ICC world cricketer of the year nominations (Aug 09 - Aug 10). Fairly astonishing that Graham Swann isn't on the list and some of the others are (Clarke, Johnson....considering that last year's Ashes series qualified?) - although I didn't hear Sky mention that Swann was in fact on the nominations for the test award.

Can't get my head around the fact that a sport which is pretty much governed by statistics (Bowl / Bat averages etc) what the need for a four man council to come up with a shortlist of players is, just look at the averages and the standard of opposition to come up with the ratings.

Absolutely, just look at the ratings and decide which player's combination of bowling, batting and fielding stats deserves the award, instead of Matty Hayden turning up with a list of ten of his mates.

Can't argue that the list contains world class players but it's not a fair reflection of performances over the past year. More a case of the same old names being batted around.

Radio 2 said the same thing on their sports report earlier. It was "an oversight" so they say.
