Dc was and is a coward and a useless feck, but

I agree entirely with the point mad by Lee - it's the complete absence of a single half way decent midfielder that has us where we are.

There's more fight in my dandruff than in Gareth Williams

Couldn't agree more. Most of the problems have come when the midfield goes AWOL. No fight to recover a ball or even looking for a ball to give an outlet to the defence. Joey done well as a defensive midfielder and since Hughes has come back we have had someone who's trying to back up the attack, unfortunately he's still hasn't recovered his consistency. In between has been poor. Smithy got the potential out wide left but otherwise nothing.

No brainer for me.

DC's goals, from the chances we have created, would have given us about 10 more points IMO.

Nothing great but probable safety none the less, and with it far more confidence in the team which in itself would bring more points.

Still mid table at best though, which in the grand scheme of things is not good enough.

we can only dream :icon_cry:

A couple more points with DC but not many. He had a poor strike rate last year and we all said if he'd scored more we'd have been in the play-offs. All said and done, £3m is fantastic money. He wouldn't have saved us singlehandedly, and without the cash I bet we couldn't have signed Fryatt (although I have no idea if that's true)

We can all name various MON sides, and they were all in the same style and well balanced. It this site had existed then, imagine the team discussions on here - we'd all agree about 8 or 9 of the players and the talk would be "who should partner Heskey" and "Taggart or Walsh" - not a random collection of 16 names...

We'd still have been moaning about not signing a striker as we always do :) .

I remember a period of about one and a half years when we were waiting for the big money striker and on the mailing list I was on at the time we were continually frustrated. It was very nearly Ashley Ward for £4m!!! But ended up with Tony Cottee on a free, thank god for that.

Then he finally bought Arnie Gunlaugsson who we all thought was a striker at the time :icon_eek:

that dreaded consistency. it has been the thorn in SH's side since he came back from injury no mistake
