Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy will answer England’s call again this week, after being included in Roy Hodgson’s latest Three Lions squad.
Capped for the first time in a friendly against the Republic of Ireland at the end of last season, Vardy’s reward for an excellent start to the new campaign is a place in the squad for the forthcoming European Championship qualifiers in San Marino (5 September) and at home to Switzerland (8 September).
Vardy is one of 14 City professionals that could feature on the international stage this week, as Barclays Premier League action takes a week-long break.
Gökhan Inler could line up against his Leicester teammate after being called up by Switzerland, who also host Slovenia (5 September).
Christian Fuchs has been included in the Austria squad for games against Moldova (5 September) and Sweden (8 September), while Andrej Kramarić could feature for Croatia against Azerbaijan (3 September) and Norway (6 September).
Andy King and Blackburn Rovers loanee Tom Lawrence are both in the Wales squad for their fixtures against Cyprus (3 September) and Israel (6 September), while Kasper Schmeichel will report for Denmark, who face Albania (4 September) and Armenia (7 September).
Further afield, Shinji Okazaki’s Japan host Cambodia in Tokyo (3 September) before travelling to Iran to play Afghanistan (8 September), while Jeffrey Schlupp’s Ghana take on Congo (1 September) and Rwanda (5 September).
