My girlfriend has just decided to change phones after having this one for about 7 years. Her brother in law has given her an Iphone 3g which he doesn't need since his contract has expired and he's changed phones. She naively thought it would be as simple as just popping her O2 sim card into the Iphone but as her brother in law was with Vodafone it says this is not compatible.

Is there an easy way of getting this sorted. If we went into the O2/Vodafone shop would they be able to sort it so that we can then use her O2 sim?

Any help much appreciated.

The original owner of the iPhone should be able to request it is unlocked by O2 via their website. Assuming he's still a customer.

Vodafone will be able to unlock it. Some networks don't charge for an unlock on contract phones (or phones that have reached the end of their contract) but I don't know what Vodafone's policy is. Her brother in law might have to request the unlock as he had the contract.

There are other places that do unlocking but it's best to check with Vodafone first.
