Pre Match Ipswich v Leicester

Most football bores me these days but it was more a reference to BN’s similar dislike of many ‘modern’ styles of football. Winning football is, by definition, good football. It would be daft to argue against a bloke who won the league with his only season in charge even if he then did the smart thing for his own career by immediately leaving.

I agree there was a period of time where we were dominating and cruising most games and I was guilty of feeling that boredom too.

However, I'd say the boredom was also down to the fact whether people admit it, we are generally a massively arrogant fan base that expects us to be comfortably safe in the PL, or even still challenging for European places.

I think it may have been Willow in another thread who alluded to the 'completed it mate’ mentality that the majority of us suffer from after winning the league and fa cup and it's bang on.

If that never happened and we had a season like last where we were absolutely coasting it for the first 2 thirds, every home game would have been an absolutely party atmosphere as we would have never seen anything like it before.

Ultimately, we complete failed to capitalise on our unexpected success and we are back to the club we always used to be. but the majority of our fans have witnessed success that no one ever expected - as a result, everything now seems tame and it is more difficult to get as excited about things.

I think the fans shown that a bit on Friday too, as much as the players appeared to give up after the second goal, the fans were completely silent and all you could hear on the TV was 40 mins of Forest fans taking the absolute piss in our own back yard.

Not sure what all that has got to do with the Ipswich game though....

We aren’t the club we were prior to our promotion in (I think) the 2014/15 season, we have been relegated once and weee immediately promoted again.

What’s worse is that there is also no way that squad should have been relegated in the first place.

We are no longer a yo-yo club or have spent vast swathes on f time in the Championship, in fact it’s about one season in about twelve.

I’m also unsure our fans are any more entitled than any other fan base who have had “marginal” success?

I just think that some of us are fed up with us having managers who can’t seem to get a tune out of perfectly good teams.

EM aside SC hasn’t even produced 60 minutes of decent football in a single game since his arrival, and added to that he seems to be a stubborn twat too.

The minimum I expect from out team is 100% commitment and a competent manager who can organise and adapt a team to a changing game. Seems that this is a bit much to ask for atm.

What’s worse is that there is also no way that squad should have been relegated in the first place.

We are no longer a yo-yo club or have spent vast swathes on f time in the Championship, in fact it’s about one season in about twelve.

But relegation has sent us from a group of teams challenging for Europe, to be the best of the rest, to starting again at the bottom for scraps. Signing journeymen from other PL teams.

So we are back to where we were in 2014, and with less good transfer acumen.

On Maresca regardless of his style of play the most impressive thing is how he got our mess of a squad to buy-in to his methods within 90 minutes of pre season.

And then has got Chelsea’s mess of a squad into some kind of shape where they are top five, jettisoning about 20 players on loan or to the reserves in the process. Including his main man from last season.

evidence so far suggests a pretty good leader.

I also have doubts if it would work at the bottom of the table, but at the moment his CV is on the up.
