It would not surprise me to learn that any number of the paper driven rumours were/are the work of MM. It would seem to me that he would float the idea in front of the fans and if it floated and he liked the Manager then that is who he will go with.

But most of the managers we are being linked with have had some sort of failure or blemish on their CV. Coleman sacked as Fulham nosedived towards the relegation zone, Worthington relegated and then failure to mount any serious promotion bid the following season. Davies sacked by Motherwell.
