After a steady start it is apparant to me that you have to pay for quality ( as we did for Wellens) if we are in a similar league position in January it will be interesting to see if MM gives NP sufficient funds to attain the play-offs

... brings the snow,
Makes our feet and fingers glow.

Grateful to be well placed but it is still very early. There's nothing bad about being optimistic but happy to take each game as it comes.

April, comes she will,
When streams are ripe and swelled with rain.

(Sounds like an ancient description of dogging)

I think you are right. Wellens is a managers dream - a player who is already successful at this level. At the moment I think our wingers are championship quality which means, of course, just below playoff level. It is possible that we are not seeing the best of Dany. Last season he was playing in League One and it is a huge adjustment. I would like to see Max Gradel get more games. I believe he has real potential but needs games.

Last season we used the loan system very effectively. Three of our regular first team - Martin, Gilbert and Hobbs - were on loan. This year we seem to be starting matches with our two loan players on the bench. There may be scope for recruitment there.

We have a big squad and a number of good players are finding it difficult to get in the starting lineup (Morrison, Adams, Waghorn) plus players like Kermogant and McGivern (who I have not seen play). If we are to get anyone in January it would be better to get one player who will be a 1st team regular rather than a couple more benchwarmers.

Since when did 'Championship quality' mean 'just below the playoff level'?

If a team is in the playoffs or the automatic promotion spots, it doesn't mean that their players suddenly enter the bracket of Premiership quality - which I presume is what you're saying? Take players like Chris Eagles and Michael Kightly - very good Championship players but I'm not sure they fall into the bracket of Premiership quality players just yet.

He was playing in League 2 last season.

EDIT: And I'm afraid I have to disagree regarding Gradel, I think he has a lot of speed and can beat players, but his decision making and technical ability are lacking. He holds onto the ball for far too long and doesn't seem to know when to release it, and more often than not when he does release the ball, real quality is lacking.

If he had shown any improvement over the time he's been at the club then I'd be a bit more hopeful, but his crossing/final ball hasn't improved at all, and neither has his decision making. Pace and a couple of tricks are good assets, but I think League 1 is probably his level.

But Gradel did a really funny dance in front of us at Southend last year, so on dancing ability alone, I say we keep him and just let him run around the edge of the pitch when we score.

Stick him in Filbert's costume and be done with it then! :icon_lol:

I am not convinced that Dyer is.

Soon be Christmas.

What about May :102:

May each day in the week be a good day
May the Lord always watch over you
May all of your hopes turn to wishes
May all of your wishes come true
