I thought he might have gotten over his injuries and could reach the heights he once hit, but you were right, he's career's as good as over now. He'll get released from Man City at the end of his contract and probably end up playing Championship/League One football. What a waste of talent, I remember thinking he'd be the next great English midfielder at one point.

I just don't understand why footballers with enough money to pay a fleet of drivers go out for a drink and drive themselves, if I had their money I'd have a staff of drivers on call 24/7.

He does seem to Have shown a lack of care for his own career which seems to have gone down in flames. Obviously injuries didnt help him but he doesn't appear to have put himself in a position to succeed either. Certainly he was talented enough to do so and how England could have done with a midfielder with his skillset. Shame.
A football player is a athlete. I just don't get the drinking culture that seems to be ingrained in the game.
If I was a professional athlete I would be tee-total. I'm not, so drink too much.

But it's far less likely as he got away with it before because the judge/magistrates accepted a moronic arguement in his defence.
Ps. Just read the story and it's speeding not drink driving so I'd modify my comments a bit.

The thing I don't understand is how he can realise that a "chauffeur could leak Stoke secrets" only after he has been nicked for speeding and not before. I wonder whether the two events are linked.
Moreover someone who displays such reckless indifference, this is not his first offence, is much more likely to run down a member of someone else's family.

Plus, he could just not talk while the chauffeur is driving him. Since he shouldn't be talking on his phone while driving anyway, he wouldn't be losing any time.
