Anyone who has any doubt as to City current financial situation will have been put right by recent events. Rob Kelly asked the board if it would be possible to bring Joey Gudjonsson back from Holland and was told it wasn't possible.


Deapite our parlous financial position, this for me is a real worry. Joey was a good player for us last seaon in a poor side. If we are serious to return to the prem under MM then we need better quality than Gudjohnsson.

It again opens the debate about RK?
 
I agree, I don't think Gudjohnsen was that good. I know he had a few good games but he also had plenty of bad ones. People seem to remember him for his "wonder goal" and forget about the games where he couldn't pass for toffee!
 
I think it speaks volumes about Rob Kelly and his cautious approach to management and the transfer market, he seems to have a liking for the better the devil you know approach rather than taking a gamble, a trait that may well keep us in this division but will never deliver any sniff of challenging for top flight football.

... or taking a chance with players that we can then sell on for a profit. :icon_roll
 
I love watching the tapes of when we were in the premiership... They are going to wear out soon:(

But look at it from RK's point of view, he has no/very little money and the little he has he needs to spend wisely so most would sign 'better the devil you know', IMO RK has a brief of keep us in the division and under the current regime we would not have a sniff at the top flight anyway.

Now with MM at the helm that will change and Joey is well short of the type of player we need to sign to be successful.

Exactly, we are all pretty sure MM will be in this week, even the FT are hopeful, RK will be well aware of the takeover situation and estimated completion dates, so I would hope with that in mind his wish list would contain more ambitious transfer targets.
 
Please can we donate some more bandwidth to talking about how we havent got a player that burnley have signed? Please oh please.

I think one of the biggest problems is that we've not got the backroom staff numbers. Didn't we employ some guy before christmas as a scout? Who also does other things?! My point is we haven't got a scouting network of any note...meaning its up to the likes of Kelly and Stowel to go and look at players.

I'm hoping the MM will bring in more people to help Kelly, so he can get on with the task of managing the team.

That geezer with the Italian name, why employ a fecking scout if we can't afford any new players.

Also Taggart's scouting according to Newts, that's two of the bastards doing nowt

Taggart is doing for nowt, also doesn't scouting also include watching teams we are about to play and reporting back :102:

I can just imagine the scouting report and the discussion on tactics

Taggs : ' Here you go Rob, my scouting report for our next match'

RK : ' Well thanks for that Taggs, so 4-4-2 and my tactics will be to get the ball out to the full backs and then Hoof the fecking thing as hard and high as possible'

Taggs : 'oh for fecks sake, not again'
