Absolutely the right thing to do. Keown is still a useful player but has no medium to long term value - and its the medium to long term we should be concerned with.

MA's short termism proved ultimately the wrong approach.

TBH I'm not that bothered, granted he did look solid towards the start of the season, but the last few games I've seen him play he's been quite poor. Some of his passing was shocking - I also noticed when he made a poor pass he was quick to lay the blame on the intended recipient.

If it free's up some wages I'm all for it.

This looks like the start of a long release list. I hope so anyway.

We deperatley need to bring the playing age down, and this is a good place to start. IMO Keown has barely put a foot wrong and been a good squad player. I just hope the likes of Elliott, Pressman, Dublin, Gemill etc all follow suit.

Not bothered at all really. He gave an interview the other week basically saying it was the fans fault that the team perform badly at home (some people may agree with that, I certainly don't), his performances haven't been wonderful recently and apparently he's a high earner...so lets get rid of him and free up some wages. Doesn't seem like he wants to stay anyway with both Adams and Levein transfer listing him.

The reason being that MA tried to get rid of him because he seems to have difficulty with players who have strong personalities and more illustrious careers than his own.

In contrast, CL wants to move him on for forward planning reasons.

That's why its receiving a different reception - and also of course MA had put together a squad with the intention of achieving an instant return to the Prem - and Keown fitted into that scenario - so geting rid of him then didn't seem particularly clever.

It's a shame really, but I guess it does make sense if Levein wants to start building his team for next season early
If he can get the players he wants to come in now (or at least some of them), then at least they have the rest of this season to start to gel, so we won't end up with a season like this where all the players were new at the start of the season.

To be honest I think batter makes fitness a wishful entity, too high a fat content to be honest.
