Cynics the lot of you. I cannot understand how anyone would percieve a contract extension as a tool to bump up a transfer fee. Even, and its a massive even in my belief, even if the club see it as that why on earth would AK sign a contract under the pretense of him leaving soon? I don't see how people can't accept the fact he might want to play for Leicester city for the next four years.

I think in the 'modern era' it is rare for a player to have that attitude, so I understand people's concern / cynicism.

I also believe that he'll stay for at least another season.

It happened with Heskey. King may feel he is helping the club by allowing them to maximise his fee, and/or he may have had a minimum fee release clause added to his contract.

thats great news, he is a quality player on his game but sometimes lacks any impact only contributing from scoring, yes i no thats how you win a football game but if he had what wellens has which is chase the ball down and give it your all he would be the complete package. hopefully he will sign his new 5 yer contract next year as well.

But Wellens doesnt score many, so he wouldn't be the complete package. They are different types of player for a reason.

im trying to say if he had the urgency to chase balls down like wellens does and sticks a good foot in etc plus how kingy is banging in the goals and not afraid to shoot. then what a player. you got to admit if he has not scored his goals would you be saying star man?

So are you suggesting if he was a much better all round player he would be a better player?

It is certainly true that it is the Andy King goals that make him special; his goalscoring record is not something that just happens but a combination of astute runs and a coolness when faced with a chance which is quite remarkable in what is still a young player.

It is true that his contribution to general play has not been as great as Wellens and without his goalscoring he might struggle to get in the team. Hopefully this will be rectified over the next few months.

In August he will hopefully be a more mature player. It is difficult for a player to develop during the season when game follows game. (It is interesting that the player who IMO has improved most since the start of the season is Vitor who did not play much first team football in the winter months.)

Andy King's natural talent is the most important factor about his play as it is with any young footballer. The fact that he has been made captain for so many matches suggests that he has the second most important factor - a willingness to listen.

Would you be saying he should be like Wellens if Wellens didn't chase down players and get "stuck in"?

Of course for any professional footballer money is tremendously important as it is for people in any profession.
There is another factor which is often overlooked. Footballers like all sportsmen are naturally ultracompetitive and want to prove themselves. You do not prove yourself by playing for Leicester City in the Championship.

Andy King will want to play in the Premiership. If he proves himself there he will want to play Champions League. It is why Leicester were only able to bring in Weller and Worthington after they got promoted to the First Division and why with the advent of Champions League we will never be able to sign players that good again. I believe Andy King will become good enough to play in the Prem - I hope he does it with us.

If he was chasing balls down all the time he wouldn't be doing his current job. King makes intelligent runs all game, he limits space available to opposing players, he makes key passes, he wins the ball (despite what you might think), yet nobody seems to notice. Unless he scores, he's 'had a quiet game' or 'gone missing'. The standard of cretin watching football matches is as high as ever.

im not saying hes useless to the team im just saying he isnt in the match much but then he bangs in a goal a bit like yakubu he has just got the odd chance and banged it in. yes that great but if he got a round a bit more then he could provide more assists shots on goal etc.

But he does do that, you just aren't seeing it.

Oh, so what you're saying is you don't actually watch the games. Got it.

i must admit sometimes he does make excellent runs and puts them away and maybe just recent games he has shown a lack of urgency. i think it depends whos playing as he sometimes makes these runs but dont get picked out and thats not his fault. quality player tho

I also think he's looked tired in a lot of games since Xmas, he's played a lot of football over the past year and perhaps that, and the weight of captaincy and having to worry about the rest of the team instead of concentrating on his game hasn't helped in the past 4 months?

Just a thought.

Quite a pertinant one, at that. It's easy to forget that King is a young man. If he was persuing a 'regular' career he'd be doing incredibly well to be shouldering as much responsibility as has been lumped on him in recent times.
