I think he'll at least make us competitive against lumps like Helguson, Morison, Iwelumo etc who tend to give us a bit of a working over when we play teams that like to play it long. .

Excellent point, Sparky.

I guess this is what Sven sees as our primary issue i.e. we're a bit soft when up against these types. One thing that can't be disputed is Sol's obvious physical presence....let's hope he utilises it.

Craig Burley on 5live was very surprised at his performance as had seen him a few times at Hibs this season and he has been poor

I'm very surprised that 5live had Craig Burley on. I've listened several times this season and think he's very poor :icon_wink

His obvious ability to attack set pieces is another thing we've been lacking, as well as his communication. He seemed to be directing the other defenders and Weale around.

Maybe Sven knows what he's doing after all!

i watched the game on ESPN and one of the commentators said at the start of the game that "Sol Bamba isn't as good as he thinks he is".....
I thought he was our best player and I'm looking forward to see him play over the next few months and hopefully bringing a bit of confidence to certain defenders (i.e. Jack Hobbs) especially away from home...

If you think about it, Bamba had only been here a few days. Would not even know everyone's name yet. Has a couple of days training. Then makes his debut in front of 27000 City supporters hoping for a miracle, against a team that many Prem clubs would sell their grannies for to have just one of their players.

Sven would have told him his primary role would be to shore up a leaky defence and stop Tevez, Jo etc from scoring.

So what does he do? 45 seconds into the match he is stood next to Hart and scoring a goal! Then has several more chances during the game.

That guy has balls! He was not the least bit fazed by any of it. If you remember Abe's first home game, he was like a rabbit in headlights.

He came on for the last 10 minutes and no ****er passed to him, so its a bit harsh what you are saying. Remember who the manager was at the time as well

He looked like he didn't have a clue where he was let alone what position or even what sport he was playing.

As previously mentioned I thought he was similar to Frank Sinclair. He looked like he could easily make a blunder but was also powerful and quick and had the ability to make good tackles and outmuscle opponents. Obviously Bamba looks as though he has a great deal more potential in an attacking sense. I really hope that yesterdays heroic debut performance wasn't a one off.

My exact thought was..."feck me,reminds me of Bob Hazell" That'll do for me if it stays that way.Although without the falling out with the management & then never getting a game part obviously.

I remember that well. I am sure he did not know what he was doing. Sousa and Bruno (not the great Bruno the Portuguese one) kept talking to the interpreter who was clearly struggling and then Abe would shake his head at the interpreter and it would start again.

Of course he was not the only player who seemed to find Sousa's instructions baffling. With Pearson you knew where you were: he was either bollocking Mattock in League One or comparing the linesman to part of the female anatomy. Sousa used hand signals and I was still trying to work them out when he was sacked. Sven spends much of the game in committee with Fazackerley, Powell and occasionally Rudkin and Stowell - to be fair their decisions seem to be pretty good.

It may be that Abe's English is improving. It may also be that it is easier to give instruction to Abe in the dressing room when he is starting a game than during an actual match..

bamba's goal was a record for the quickest debutant goal, the previous quickest was archie gardner after 90 secs in 1934 - but you all knew that really of course!

:icon_eek:

Thanks :)
