ive got an acer laptop and it has had to be returned 3 times in 2 years. All times due to the power pin, first time it broke off, second time it sparked into a small fire and third time they just didn't fix it properly. Wasn't exactly quick either the repair jobs, good 3 weeks each time.
Had it for over 3 years now and apart from that and the battery going ( very common in all laptops i believe) it is running as smooth as a babies bottom and would recomment Acer as at the time it was excellent value for money and now is a reliable product as i take extra care to ensure that no stress is put on the power lead.

Thanks for all your help, but I've decided to forget the laptop and get a new desktop instead :icon_roll :icon_redf

I'd still only really need it for the internet and downloading music, and I've picked out the following couple. Would anybody mind giving their opinion on which is the better?

And twice as much RAM is preferable to twice the size of the hard drive? :102:

Depends what you're using it for. If you're storing loads of large files such as videos you'll need a big hard drive. But for normal home use and storing mp3 files (unless you have a huge number of songs), the smaller hard drive should be OK.
More ram will make your PC run faster because it will have to do less swapping to disk, so if I had to choose between the two I'd get the one with more ram.

v£3 per pound spent on a laptop should ensure you a decent placing in the next round of vbookie!
