Totally different scenarios

Twatlor inherited a side worthy of the top half of the Premiership, and then systematically destoyed it, along with the club's finances (ably assisted by an incompetent bunch of buffoons merrily signing the cheques)

Levein has inherited a complete pile of shit

I'll probaly get slated for this but its the one area i couldn't slag Peter Taylor off for. CL and PT have both been in the category of having a thankless task with city for different reasons. CL joined up with us and was told there was no money to spend , wages to cut, and players to ship out. CL will hope that the fans give him long enough and understand that that the club is still very much in a difficult fianancial postion. PT however blew the clubs resources on poor quality and over valued players, a thing that most of us blame him for to this day. It must be remembered though that Taylors thankless task was taking over from probaly one of the best managers we've ever had. IMO Leicester's fans who were spoilt by the MON era, would not have even accepted the side being in the bottom 6 of the prem under Taylor because of the MON years. He was doomed from the start and in hindsight probaly a poor choice to make for his first serious go at league management. I have a feeling that Taylor will come back to haunt us one day, and prove himself a decent manager. As far as CL is concerned i expect that the fickle brigade will have their way before long.

Well, I think you may well be right about him coming back to haunt us, however the two are completely non comparable. CL for one hasn't had anything like enough time or money, whereas in contrast Taylor had an indulgence of both. Some of the contracts he agreed almost sent our club under...Which while he would never have been able to foresee troubles that took hold of the game, MON would still never have made such mistakes.

MON probaly would not have made the same mistakes, but then again a manager like MON only probaly comes around once in a generation for a club like ours. IMO Taylor had a thankless task following MON, and more to the point most of MON squad didn't want to play for Taylor anyway. This is not an excuse for his fcuk-ups in the transfer market!!!

Surely you need to ask why the players didn't want to play for Taylor?

I am sure he learned a lot from his time at Leicester and I am also sure he's a good coach, his record proves this; however I feel the time he spent here was a learning curve at our expense.

They must have had a great respect for MON and his methods. When Taylor came along, the fizz went out and they was not prepared to pull trees up for Taylor like they did with MON. IMO they sensed that the time was up and the break up of the team was around the corner.

Fair comment Brauny, but surely that doesnt excuse the fact that Taylor on the whole signed players who were nowhere good enough and at extremely inflated prices and contracts.

As for CL, I agree with Homer, he has inherited a right old fooking mess, and to his credit he has gone about the job of rebuilding the club in a dignified, professional manner. He has acted with a sense of realism but it appears he is not prepared to use the financial position as an excuse which is refreshing. He has managed to clear the decks of most of the dead wood and it has to be said that many of these players are the ones identified by fans as shall we say not giving their all.

The players he has so far signed appear to be decent signings, and the one so far unsuccessful transfer ( De Vries ) has returned to training early in order to improve and be ready for next season, a sign of the mans character and desire to play for Leicester and Levein. It also appears that Levein will not be rushed into or pressured into hasty transfers or pay over the odds fees just to appease the fans. He has taken a fair bit of unjust criticism from certain quarters about the lack of signings and the depth of his squad but he is paitent and will wait for the right players at the right price, following our previous manager's in Adams and Taylor of buying players left right and centre this is a refreshing change.

I for one am very impressed with the way Levein has come into this club and gone about his business, he has identified the dead wood regardless of age or reputation and moved them out with more to follow and replaced them with quality and with the right attitude and desire, and he has done this by wheeling and dealing and not further jeopardising the financial position of the club.

Some good valid points and i for one wouldn't argue with them.
My earlier post was probaly taken in a different context to what i intended. There's no way i would defend Peter Taylor or the board of that time from the mess they landed the club in. I was just stating they both had a difficult job for very different reasons. Taylor's because of who he followed and Leveins for the the cut backs and lack of money

Good point that Brauny and you're right CL has a massive job on his hands; I for one am quietly impressed so far and i think the majority of the things he has done have been spot on. Long may it continue!

Yep, long may it continue but like i said earlier that the fickle brigade may well have their say. Everybody seems to have calmed down a bit since the season finished and there are more positive comments about CL now that folk have relaxed. My fear is that 1 win in the first 6 or 7 games next season and fickle brigade will be calling for his head.

1 win in the first seven games and we'll all be calling for his head........

Not me. If all the fans want to go down that route, then it could be a long time before you see premier football again. Man city went through years of sacking managers and they ended up in the 3rd. Southampton have done the same and relegation quickly followed.

Agree managers need time to show their best, this is craig's rebuilding season not last season this season, if we get promoted next season rather then this season we will be in a better position to stay up. Everything takes time, and stability is a key to successful teams.

i know that and you know that and most people on this board know that but will it stop the philistines booing and throwing programmes and season tickets on the pitch if we get a bad start? sadly i think not :icon_cry:

you are 110% correct, but sadly only 5% of Leicester fans can see that! Its the blind leading the blond i'm afraid!

Don't talk about homer like that.
